Saudi Arabia: The silent struggle-Middle East Today-04-29-2011-(Part1)

www.presstv.com Saudi Arabia has cracked down on the protests on democracy in the country. It has also helped Bahrain to suppress the Shias in the country militarily saying Bahrain has asked for Saudis' help and military assistance. However, the truth is Saudis are fearful about their own security predicting that the revolution would surely infiltrate into their own borders. So, Riyadh is serious in crackdown on the revolutionaries in Bahrain which would end up with a dear price for Saudis.

Deterrence in the Middle East?

Zakaria: Israel, don't strike Iran By Fareed Zakaria, CNN We are hearing a new concept these days in discussions about Iran — the zone of immunity. The idea, often explained by Ehud Barak, Israel's defense minister, is that soon Iran will have enough nuclear capability that Israel would not be able to inflict a crippling blow to its program. Israeli officials explain that we Americans cannot understand their fears, that Iran is an existential threat to them. But in fact we can understand because we have gone through a very similar experience ourselves. After World War II, as the Soviet Union approached a nuclear capability, the United States was seized by a panic that lasted for years.Everything that Israel says about Iran now, we said about the Soviet Union. We saw it as a radical, revolutionary regime, opposed to every value we held dear, determined to overthrow the governments of the Western world in order to establish global communism. We saw Moscow as irrational, aggressive and utterly unconcerned with human life. After all, Joseph Stalin had just sacrificed a mind-boggling 26 million Soviet lives in his country's struggle against Nazi Germany. Just as Israel is openly considering preemptive strikes against Iran, many in the West urged such strikes against Moscow in the late 1940s. The calls came not just from hawks but even from lifelong pacifists such as the public intellectual Bertrand Russell. Judgement Day

As the explosive war in the Middle East escalates to new heights in 2001, we draw parallels between the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and the South African occupation of Namibia. Contextualised in the history of the violent struggle against apartheid in South Africa's past and the current brutalising "tit-for-tat" bloodshed taking Place in Israel and Palestine, "Judgement Day" is as much a film about the post-apartheid search for healing in South African society as it is a prophetic reflection on the loss of humanity of those bathed in the ongoing bloodied conflict that is Israel and Palestine today. "Indifference to evil is more insidious than evil itself. It is a silent justification affording evil acceptability in society". Beginning with the words of Jewish philosopher Abraham Heschel, "Judgement Day" is about the universal effects of war and protracted conflict on those who become the agents of the violence. This film examines the way in which those involved in such conflict become brutalised, losing their essential humanity and moral compass. We meet two young men, Sean Callaghan and Scotch Mdhlope, who consider themselves brutalised through their role as conscript soldiers in the South African conflicts with Namibia and Angola. We follow the men on their quests for healing, and watch as they recall their past acts in testimonies given to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The experiences of Callaghan and Mdhlope are then compared with the ...

Debate: Does UN Statehood Bid Advance or Undermine Palestinian Struggle?

www. DemocracyNow.org - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to officially submit a statehood request to the United Nations in defiance of US and Israeli threats. A new joint Israeli-Palestinian poll shows the Obama administration's stance on Palestinian recognition at the United Nations is more extreme than that of a strong majority of Israeli citizens, with 69 percent of Israelis saying their government should accept UN recognition of an independent Palestinian state. The survey also found 83 percent of Palestinians in the Occupied Territories support the bid. While supporters have hailed the bid as a step forward in the struggle to end the Israeli occupation and bring peace to the Middle East, critics call it a ploy by the Palestinian Authority to cling to power while undermining the rights of Palestinian refugees. Democracy Now! hosts a debate with two leading Palestinian analysts: Ali Abunimah, co-founder of the website Electronic Intifada, and author of "One Country: A Bold Proposal to End the Israeli-Palestinian Impasse"; and Mouin Rabbani, co-editor of Jadaliyya E-zine. A View from the Middle East HIGHLIGHTS

The Justice and Development Party (AKP) is now engaged in a political struggle with the country's secular establishment, and the outcome is unclear. Western governments had hoped the party's leaders could create a model of governance for Islamic parties in the Arab world. But how does this play in the Arab world? What happens now that Turkey's constitutional court has moved to oust the government of Recep Tayyip Erdogan and close down the country's biggest and most successful political party? Representatives from the region discussed these and other related issues at a press briefing hosted by The Century Foundation and the Heinrich Boell Foundation.

The real Apartheid in the Middle east-The Ugliness of Islamic Apartheid

Israel is not an Apartheid state nor did it ever run an Apartheid system in the disputed territories. The real Apartheid is in the Arab and Muslim world. I call it Islamic Apartheid. Islamic Apartheid has such an ugly legacy that victimized both non-Muslims and Muslims alike and both Arab and non-Arab alike. It has victimized Homosexuals, women, non-Muslims and even Muslims of different ethnic groups. While it is seen as okay to bash Israel as the "racist Apartheid Zionist regime", it is seen as bigoted, racist and/or Islamophobic to talk about the tyranny and Apartheid in the Arab and Muslim world. This video is dedicated to the heroes in the IDF [Israel Defense Forces], who struggle to protect and defend their country while balancing it out with human rights and to the courageous heroic people, who want to end Islamo-Fascism, whether they're Muslims, Arabs, Jews, Christians or any other religious denomination, ethnic group and/or racial group. This video is also dedicated to the people in Sderot, who had to deal with rocket attacks for about a decade.

John '100 years' Mccain admits Iraq War really about OIL!!!

McCain decided to toss in a plug for his upcoming energy policy rollout. But in the midst of decrying the dangers of Americans reliance on foreign oil, McCain seemed to suggest that this reliance caused the current struggle in Iraq. "My friends, I will have an energy policy that we will be talking about, which will eliminate our dependence on oil from the Middle East that will -- that will then prevent us -- that will prevent us from having ever to send our young men and women into conflict again in the Middle East," McCain said. Trevor Rayne talks on Imperialism and the Middle East @ "Palestine: unity and liberation" meeting

www.frfi.co.uk Trevor Rayne (Editorial board - Fight Racism! Fight Imperialism!) talks at "Palestine unity and liberation" on Friday 14 October 2011 Organised by Victory To The Intifada www.facebook.com ===== In September 2011, the Palestinian Authority is urging the United Nations to recognise Palestine as a state by accepting Palestine as a full member of the UN. Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation of Palestine is intensifying; the question of Palestine still unresolved. The blockade of Gaza continues; more settlements are being built in the West Bank and East Jerusalem; the Israeli army raids and demolishes Palestinian houses and makes political arrests; racism is on the increase against Palestinian citizens in Israel and many millions of Palestinians are still refugees. The decades long Palestinian struggle for liberation challenges not only Israeli occupation and racism but also imperialist ambitions for the Middle East. Imperialism has been further threatened by recent uprisings in the region by people demanding social and economic justice. The meeting will address the current situation in Palestine, with its internal political and class divisions, within the context of continued Israel occupation, imperialist intervention and resistance. Speakers: Adam Hanieh: Development Studies Department, School of Oriental and African Studies Jody McIntyre: Journalist and Political Activist Trevor Rayne: Editorial board - Fight Racism! Syria Conflict Escalates as Regional and World Powers Debate Assad's Future 1 of 2

democracynow.org - Syria is seeing some of the worst violence of the 11-month uprising against Bashar al-Assad amid an ongoing international standoff over how to respond. Assad's forces have launched what appears to be one of their fiercest assaults on the flashpoint city of Homs to date. Both the United States and Britain have closed their embassies in the Syrian capital of Damascus and withdrawn diplomatic personnel, citing safety fears. As the crisis escalates, Russia and China are facing criticism for blocking a UN Security Council resolution backed by the United States and Arab League calling for a political transition in Syria. To discuss the situation in Syria, we're joined by Patrick Seale, a leading British writer on the Middle East and author of "Asad: The Struggle for the Middle East." "It's at least a two or possibly a three stage crisis. Internally in Syria, the situation is getting worse by the day," Seale said. "At a higher level, there is a struggle between the United States on the one hand and its allies, and its opponents like Russia and China. ... Then there's a third level, possibly, of Arab Gulf states like Qatar, for example, even Saudi Arabia behind it, who are obsessed and worried by Iran and they think that Iran might stir up Shiite communities in the region." Leo Muhammad: Speaks on America's intervention in Libya and The Middle East.

This exclusive interview was recorded on Sunday 8th May 2011. It was conducted over the internet with Leo Muhammad speaking from London, England; and I speaking from Barbados in the West Indies - hence the sound of the whistling frogs in the background. The questions that I put to Leo Muhammad are as follows: • Social scientists agree that Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world today. When and how did you become a Muslim and what effect has Islam had in your life? • What are the differences between the Muslim members of the Nation of Islam and the Muslims in the Middle-East, Asia and Africa? • In 1986; the British government imposed a ban on the Honourable Minister Louis Farrakhan from entering Britain. What effect has the ban had in terms of stopping our people from hearing the message and teachings of The Honourable Elijah Muhammad; and what effect has it had on the overall growth and development of the Nation of Islam in The UK? • In the UK; many regard you as the premier in black stand up comedy with your unique brand of EDUTAINMENT: What is Edutainment; what inspired you to do stand up comedy and; does comedy really have a place in the black liberation struggle? • Over the past 6 months, I have posted on YouTube, a number of video clips of you speaking at London Hyde Park, Speakers Corner. Why did you decide to speak there and how were the Nation of Islam received? Do you have any plans to speak at Hyde Park again? • Minister Farrakhan recently instructed ...
