Iraq War 2: US Army 3rd Infantry Division (M) Takes Baghdad by Sherman-Style Blitzkrieg, 6/10

The 3rd ID (M) commander, MG Buford Blount acting upon the suggestion of his 2nd BDE commander, Colonel Perkins, wisely decides to not clear Baghdad by slow, plodding dismounted infantry clearing buildings one or two at a time--instead using "thunder runs" to slice off segments of the city by tracked, armored, maneuver to seize control of key, governmental centers-of-gravity (COGs). www.combatreform.org Baghdad International Airport was taken by the US Army on April 3, 2003. Then the Thunder Runs begin to take the center of the city and to oust Saddam Huseein's government. A lucky RPG round sets fire to a M1 Abrams heavy tank engine but the column cannot put the fire out; FIREFIGHTING M113 GAVINS should be organic to every Army Brigade Combat Team: www.combatreform.com Meanwhile, the marines are hundreds of miles away still bogged down because their weak truck-mounted unit structures cannot shrug off enemy fires and keep moving. Here's an US Army Command & General Staff College School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) report by Infantry officer, Major William Sutey on the need for cross-country MOBILITY (XCM) from M113 Gavin light tracked tanks to improve LIGHT INFANTRY FORCE mobility, protection and firepower. 3RD Infantry Division. Fallen heroes and other soldiers.

My husband and I have over 5 years in Iraq between us. I was with 1-64AR during OIF III and husband is with 3-69AR. Please always remember our soldiers, past, present and future. As we remember our fallen heroes, please remember their families as well, they also have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and this great nation we live in. God bless all of our soldiers, their families and 3rd Infantry Division. "Mission first, men always", "Rock of the Marne"!

Iraq War 2: US Army 3rd Infantry Division (M) Takes Baghdad by Sherman-Style Blitzkrieg 1/10

The video documentary begins with so-called Stability and Support Operations (SASO) peacekeeping currently being done throughout Iraq in wheeled trucks because incompetent Light Infantry Narcissist (LINies) think that since its no longer a Nation-State War (NSW) they can skimp and get by without tracked tanks used by the mech pussies (mechpees) they dislike. www.combatreform.org Being restricted to roads/trails in wheeled trucks that stroke your weak ego instead of tanks that can go cross-country is unsound non-sense--regardless of what kind of war you are in--and has resulted in as of 2009; over 2, 436+ Soldiers dead, 26, 000+ wounded--primarily from avoidable high explosive land mines. www.combatreform.org The SASO peace did not develop primarily because the NSW phase was botched by the incompetent, anti-mechanized, 75% in wheeled trucks, malignant narcissist USMC that was constantly stopped by mere rear guards and 6 days AWOL reaching Baghdad, letting Saddam and subordinates escape from their unoccupied east sector to start a sub-national conflict (SNC) insurgency against us.

Iraq War 2: US Army 3rd Infantry Division (M) Takes Baghdad by Sherman-Style Blitzkrieg 7/10

Continuing with "thunder runs", the 3rd ID (M) decides its time to stay in the west Baghdad city center, collapsing the Saddam regime. The weakness of the Army's HBCT structure was exposed: wheeled resupply trucks were ambushed and set aflame along the roads they had to travel on; proof positive that we must switch to M113 Gavin-based XM1108 tracked resupply tanks that can deliver supplies cross-country and make better use of air-delivery: www.combatreform.org Clearly, there is no way wheeled Humvee or LAV-III/Stryker trucks would have survived the intense Iraqi bullet and RPG fires to thunder run into Baghdad; we took Baghdad and won the nation-state Iraq war 2, only because the 3rd ID (M) was fully tracked and armored. But where the hell are the marines? Saddam and subordinates have escaped from their sector and wide-scale looting has broken out there...the 3rd ID (M) cannot do their job and the marine's...where are they? WHAT? They are stuck again and cannot cross the measly Diyalah river? Thus, Iraq Nation-State War 2 ends but quickly degrades into a Sub-National Conflict (SNC) instead of a peace—primarily due to USMC incompetence that let Saddam and his subordinates to escape to start a rebellion against us. Adding to this, the Iraqi Army Soldiers that did as we requested and didn't fight---that we didn't bother to rehire to quickly restore order. In Grenada and Panama, we rehired the local Soldiers who chose to back a new government of the people, and by the people ...

Iraq War 2: US Army 3rd Infantry Division (M) Takes Baghdad by Sherman-Style Blitzkrieg, 4/10

The operational art (OPART) of the 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized) to employ a feint towards Al Hillah to keep the enemy guessing as to which pincer was the main effort (the flying column headed towards the Karballah Gap?) is similar to the TTP Union Army General Sherman did to defeat the Confederates in 1864-1865 by placing the Iraqi Army on the horns of a dilemma. Compare this to the clusterfuck of USMC wheeled trucks and bloated amtracks getting stuck in the mud and having their asses kicked by mere Fedayeen rear guards hundreds of miles to the south. Iraq War 2, Parts 3a and b www.youtube.com www.youtube.com The USMC talks a good game about maneuver warfare but isnt willing to do the hard work of mechanizing themselves properly thats required to be a modern-day German style blitzkrieg force like the 3rd ID (M); so they were only barely able to make it to Baghdad--6 days late--and placed the entire invasion in jeopardy by their criminal incompetence. Most of the 3rd ID (M) was in M113 Gavin light tracks; but notice how when Iraqi sniper, artillery and mortar fire was received, 101st Air Assault light infantry riding on the backs of heavy tanks suffer casualties needlessly www.combatreform.org when they should have their own High Technology M113 Gavins to be full maneuver players in either closed or open terrains: www.combatreform.orgHere's an US Army Command & General Staff College School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) report by Infantry officer, Major William ...

Sword Beach, British 3rd Infantry, D-Day, June 6 1944

Visit The War Years www.thewaryears.co.uk One of five Normandy beaches chosen by the Allies for Operation Overlord, the invasion of Nazi occupied Europe, Sword was the responsibility of the 3rd British Infantry Division. The beach is situated at the eastern edge of the D-Day invasion area, between the towns of Lion sur Mer and Ouistreham. 07 Special tanks of the 22nd Dragoons are the first ashore with demolition teams. They immediately engage the German defenders. 07:30Hrs: 20 LCA landing craft carrying the assault companies of the 1st South Lancs and 2nd East Yorks hit the beach. On Queen Red the fighting is intense and the 2nd East Yorks takes heavy casualties. French troops clear Riva-Bella and capture the Casino strongpoint around 09:30Hrs. Britsh troops reach the Ouistreham harbor and capture the locks. N° 6 Commando then heads inland towards Bénouville (Pegasus) bridge and reaches it at 12:02Hrs. 3rd Infantry Division fails to achieve all its D-Day objectives. However, by day's end the 3rd Infantry Division has landed 28845 men and 2603 vehicles at a cost of 630 men killed or wounded. Come and visit The War Years website to see our full range of WW2 commemorative merchandise and radio-controlled tanks and aircraft.

Algerians in World War 2, the 3rd Algerian Infantry Division

This is a short video to honor the 3rd Algerian Infantry Division, a division that consisted of mainly Algerian soldiers conscripted in Algeria but also Moroccan and Tunisian soldiers. Very little is spoken about in modern France of their service to the allies, but thousands of soldiers from North Africa died in service to the allies in Italy and France and in many of the campaigns in the last part of world war 2. They were also with the first french brigade to march into France in 1945. There have been recent movies such as DAYS OF GLORY or LES INDIGENES. This short movie is a tribute to these soldiers, many from poor families who had no idea what they were getting into and died far from home, never to return to North Africa

Iraq War 2: US Army 3rd Infantry Division (M) Takes Baghdad by Sherman-Style Blitzkrieg, 2/10

The operational concept of an all-mechanized force racing to Baghdad to take key enemy governmental centers-of-gravity (COGs) without a month of air bombardment originates with now retired US Army Colonel Douglas Macgregor, the leader of the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment (ACR) during the legendary Battle of the 73 Easting during the first Iraq war: www.youtube.com www.youtube.com who briefed CENTCOM and convinced General Franks to not repeat the mistakes of our first Iraq war of giving the enemy time to escape during a long-drawn-out aircraft bombardment nor moving too cautiously treating tanks that can shoot-on-the-move at 45+ mph like foot-slogging infantrymen--as if it were Vietnam, but to send self-contained armored formations to finish the job quickly before the enemy could react. The assignment of weak marine foot-sloggers in Humvee, 5-ton cargo capacity trucks, bloated Amtracks www.combatreform.org with only a small handful of M1 Abrams heavy tanks stolen from the Army (USMC never paid for them) was a violation of the Macgregor Plan done for political reasons that endangered the entire invasion. As it was, the marines were constantly ambushed and held up by mere Iraqi rear guards suffering heavy casualties and were 6 days late while the fully prepared, tracked, mechanized 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized) waited in their west sector of Baghdad for them to show up. www.combatreform.org While the USMC was AWOL/UA; looting broke out in east Baghdad and Saddam and ...

Reforger II - NATO Exercise (1970)

thefilmarchive.org DVD: www.amazon.com Exercise Reforger (from return of forces to Germany) was an annual exercise conducted, during the Cold War, by NATO. The exercise was intended to ensure that NATO had the ability to quickly deploy forces to West Germany in the event of a conflict with the Warsaw Pact. The Reforger exercise itself was first conceived in 1967. The Johnson administration announced plans to withdraw approximately two divisions from Europe during 1968. As a demonstration of its continuing commitment to the defense of NATO and to illustrate its capability of rapid reinforcement, a large scale force deployment was planned that would deploy a division or more to West Germany in a regular annual exercise. The first such exercise was conducted beginning on 6 January 1969. These exercises continued annually past the end of the Cold War, except for the year 1989, until 1993. Reforger 1988 was billed as the largest European ground maneuver since the end of World War II as 125000 troops were deployed. Reforger was not merely a show of force—in the event of a conflict, it would be the actual plan to strengthen the NATO presence in Europe. In that instance, it would have been referred to as Operation Reforger. Important components in Reforger included the Military Airlift Command, the Military Sealift Command, and the Civil Reserve Air Fleet. The US Army also increased its rapid-reinforcement capability by prepositioning huge stocks of equipment and supplies in ...
