STIG OLIN and THORY BERNHARDS, BENGT HALLBERGS ORKESTER: SLÄCKA TÖRSTEN
The label of this recording made in December 1954 states that Stig Olin is the only singer, but Thory Bernhards joins him both in the verses and in the chorus. Famous jazz pianist Bengt Hallberg (born 1932) and his orchestra are accompanying Olin and Bernhards. Stig Olin (1920-2008) was a real jack of all trades. He was a singer, radio man, actor, composer, author and director. His singing career was mainly in the 1950s, and even though his voice was a bit limited, he knew how to deliver friendly and easygoing songs like this Swedish version of "Sippin' Soda". Thory Bernhards (born 1920) was one of the most popular female singers during the 1950s and it is a bit odd, to say the least, that she wasn't mentioned on the label of this record since she was a much bigger vocal star than Stig Olin. She also recorded for the Philips label at the time, so it can't have been a matter of recording anonymously to avoid breaking any recording contract. Anyway, this was one of my earliest findings as a 78 rpm record collector, and even though the record is in pretty bad shape, it has been a record dear to me since I liked the song from the start ... although I tend to get a bit thirsty listening to it. By the way, Stig Olin is the father of the today famous Swedish actress Lena Olin.
