Time Sculpture I, 2008

Time Sculptures are a crossdisciplinary experiment involving dance and media art. They visually explore the relationship of time, space motion and form. By redefining the relationship between time and space, the viewer experiences a transdimensional viewpoint „through time", an unique and entirely new view on the motion and interaction between the two dancers. The „Time Sculpture" is to be displayed on a Philips 42" 3D Display which reveals a third dimension without requiring the viewer to wear any glasses or technical aids. As spacial sculpture built with light instead of matter it constantly flows through 3D space along the future and past of its motion.

30 Hour Blues

For our MEDI 127, Me, Jeff White and Simon Wills created 30 Hour Blues as an experiment into editing and sound. For this piece we wanted to create something that was both visually and audibly exciting and were heavily influenced by Zbigniew Rybczynski's "Tango" and the Toshiba Time Sculpture advert. Simon came up with the concept for the whole piece of repeating clips to make music, Jeff created the main guitar piece and I worked on the positioning of the different clips of me and Simon so that they would make the drum beats and the rest of the music bits. The title comes from how long the editing roughly took, without taking into account pre-production and the actual filming on green screen, which might I add was great fun! :) Overall i'm very pleased with this piece, as are Simon and Jeff as far as I know, and would love to work with green screen and music based around video clips again in the future. Hope you enjoy it :) 30 Hour Blues Created - (17/12/2009)

www.ProjectAether.org Project Aether is a program designed to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, explorers, and dreamers. We are composed of a small number of professional rocket scientist and space physicist mentors and a group of high school students. We want to share our experiences with the world. Performed with off the shelf hardware, the inaugural flight of Project Aether documents how space exploration can be accessible to the individual. We use the HeroHD cameras which were donated GoPro. They were an ideal fit for this application in the near space environment. We launched the HeroHD unmodified and they survived temperatures as low as -50 C, and pressures below 1/100th of an atmosphere

Ryoichi Kurokawa - Vento Ignis.avi

Japanese artist, born in 1978. Kurokawa's works take on multiple forms such as installation works, recordings, and concert pieces. He composes the time sculpture with the field recordings and the digital generated structures, and reconstructs architecturally the audiovisual phenomenon. In recent years, his works are shown at international festivals and museums including Tate Modern [UK], Transmediale [DE], Shanghai eArts [CN], and Sonar [ES]. In 2010, he was awarded the Golden Nica at Prix Ars Electronica in the Digital Musics & Sound Art category. Ryoichi Kurokawa accompanies his glitching digitized sound experiments with hair formations that writhe around, change colour and flicker onscreen according to whatever's going on with the sound.

The Trouble With Sculpture

The two main historical practices in art, painting and sculpture, endure today. But while painting expands modestly from its place on the wall from time to time, sculpture has exploded or evaporated into those art forms that painting cannot accommodate. Artists Martina Schmücker, Haroon Mirza, Keith Wilson and Nathaniel Mellors and curator and chair of New Contemporaries Sacha Craddock discuss the state of sculpture today.

Escape Vehicle No 6, Simon Faithfull, 2004 (The Arts Catalyst)

Simon Faithfulls Escape Vehicle no.6 started as a live event commissioned by The Arts Catalyst for its 2004 Artists Airshow. The live audience witnessed the launching of a weather balloon with a domestic chair dangling in space beneath it. Once the apparatus had disappeared into the sky, they then watched a live video relay from the weather balloon on a giant screen as it journeyed from the ground to the edge of space (30km up). Now presented as a non-live video work, the footage shows the chair first rush away from the fields and roads, ascend through clouds and finally (against the curvature of the earth and the blackness of space) begin to disintegrate. The chilling nature of the film is that the empty chair invites the audience to imagine taking a journey to an uninhabitable realm where it is impossible to breath, the temperature is minus 60 below and the sky now resembles the blackness of space.

STRATA CUT ANIMATED TEXTURE MONTAGE

Clips from DAVID DANIELS abstract work: 1991 "Made during one week in 1991 while I was shooting a spot for Stride Rite at Novocom in LA ... Directing for Limelight pictures. I was looking for animated Background sweeps and kind of went crazy. It was a lot of fun, since patterns can be both very fast, and very compelling when finished. There are no narrative images ... just the dance of shape and motion within the strata cut time sculptures. Very little of these were ever needed or used, I just couldn't stop using up clay."
