Petrol bombs were thrown, shops looted and eight officers injured during violent riots in Tottenham following a protest over the fatal shooting of a man by police. Members of the public are now being moved away from the centre of the disorder in Tottenham High Road, where a crowd of around 300 had set fire to buildings, bins and vehicles. Eight police officers were taken to hospital - with at least one suffering head injuries - after violence that lasted from late on Saturday night into Sunday morning. A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics had treated a total of 11 people, 10 of whom were taken to hospital. By the early hours of Sunday, many protesters had moved to nearby Tottenham Hale retail park, where some were spotted looting PC World and JD Sports. Violence escalated shortly after dark, when protesters set fire to two police cars and a double decker bus. The cars, which were parked around 200 yards from the police station, were set upon shortly after dark.

Police are on the streets of Tottenham, north London, where overnight riots saw petrol bombs thrown at officers and patrol cars and buildings set alight. Eight injured police officers were taken in hospital, at least one of them with head injuries. The unrest began after a protest over the fatal shooting by police of 29-year-old Mark Duggan on Thursday. About 300 people gathered outside the police station on the High Road after demonstrators demanded "justice". London Ambulance Service said a total of 10 people had been treated and nine had been taken to hospital. Two empty patrol cars were set alight at about 20:20 BST. Shops in the area were looted, with people seen pushing away shopping trolleys full of goods. One local resident told the BBC that looting continued beyond daybreak on Sunday. A double-decker bus was set on fire at the junction of High Road and Brook Street while a shop on the High Road was also set alight. Fire crews were initially unable to reach the shop due to the disorder but later began tackling the flames. Officers visited the abandoned warehouse on an Enfield industrial site, in Lincoln Road, at 11.30pm on Saturday night after a tip off that hundreds of young people were gearing up to party. It is believed the rave was put together by a rave group called Scumtek which organises guerilla dance events dubbed Strictly Scum Dancing, spread by word of mouth and on the internet. One reveller broadcasted the event on the web, stating: "London ravers! Strictly Scum Dancing from Scumtek is happening now in Lincoln Road, Enfield...if the Old Bill says it's off, it's not". Up to 300 turned up and more than 800 people were said to have been turned away before even getting to their destination. As officers tried to move the party-goers along, a small group started throwing bottles and rocks at the police near Great Cambridge Road. I was gobsmacked when I watched this. The Sky News anchor asks the most loaded question you'll ever hear in which blames the riots on the fact that Tottenham is a racially-mixed area. This is a good example of how the mainstream Media and politicians play the divide and rule tactic and thus get the far-right frothing at the mouth. Previously I titled htis video "Sky News Racism" but I changed it after reading some of the comments which pointed out that the woman wasn't really being racist. In amongst the predictable racist bufoonery in the comments, there have been some good critical questions and comments posed to me. One person said: "the ethnic mix of the people leads to drastic cultural contrasts which can lead to more chaos in times of unrest. That is not a racists statement so much as a cultural observation." My reply to this was: "Fair enough, but this would be relevant if we were seeing inter-ethnic violence and trouble. But these people are acting together not against eachother. So for the woman to bring this point up at this time is simply her trying to push propaganda rather than objectively dealing with the actual fact."
