Marc Elliot just graduated from Washington University and has a complex form of Tourette's syndrome. He makes sounds and says words that he cannot control. Now 23, he is now inspiring audiences across the country by sharing his life story in order to convey the value of tolerance and the basic mental attitudes and behaviors that allow it to flourish. This documentary attempts to give the audience an inside look at how people react to others who are different and Marc's day to day life. I'm putting some different information in the descriptions of the various TT Camp videos: "ABOUT TICS A tic is a brief, repetitive, purposeless, nonrhythmic, involuntary movement or sound. Tics that produce movement are called "motor tics," while tics that produce sound are called "vocal tics" or "phonic tics." Tics tend to occur in bursts or "bouts." Tics are often characterized by whether they are "simple" or "complex." A simple tic involves one muscle group or one simple sound. Many simple motor tics are associated with the face/head/neck region, such as eye blinking, head jerking, shoulder shrugging, mouth grimacing, etc. Simple vocal tics include throat-clearing sounds, grunting, sniffing, and coughing. Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (Tourette Syndrome or TS) is a neurological disorder which becomes evident in early childhood or adolescence between the ages of 2 and 15. Tourette syndrome is defined by multiple motor and vocal tics lasting for more than one year. Many people have only motor tics or only vocal tics. The first symptoms usually are involuntary movements (tics) of the face, arms, limbs or trunk. These tics are frequent, repetitive and rapid. The most common first symptom is a facial tic (eye blink, nose twitch, grimace), and is replaced or added to by other tics of the neck, trunk, and limbs. These involuntary (outside the patient's control) tics may also be complicated, involving the entire body, such as kicking and stamping. Many persons report what are described as premonitory urges -- the urge to perform a motor activity. Other symptoms such as touching, repetitive thoughts and movements and compulsions can occur. There are also verbal tics. These verbal tics (vocalizations) usually occur with the movements; later they may replace one or more motor tics. Developing Tourette's Syndrome - My Struggle
Reading a story I wrote a few months back. I'm sorry for fast reading. The story is below: Growing up, I was a semi-normal kid. I had my awkwardness, especially since I have Asperger's. But that isn't what I'm here to talk about. I'd like to talk about something that has really impacted my life since I was 13. This is Tourette's Syndrome. When I was 13, I was struggling with a lot. School was very hard for me. The anxiety caused me to miss every other day of school, and the work was overwhelming. We had recently moved to a new state, and everything was different. I remember starting to repeat what others said. I would sometimes get yelled at for that and I would cry to myself not knowing what was wrong with me. Why hadn't I ever done this before? I was constantly reminded of that. I look back and see little sensory tics I did around age 7 but nothing major. I used to suppress my tics all day then hide in my room and let them all out because I used to think I was faking. I never knew much about Tourette's, I thought it was completely uncontrollable, and that I was just mocking them. I could stop some of my tics but then when I did, they would come back worse. I never told anyone about them because I was scared. Not being able to explain myself was a major issue of mine. I would try my hardest to suppress the vocal tics. The muscle ones were to hard to control, but they weren't very noticeable. Eventually I told my Neurologist about some of my tics and I was put on Tenex <b>...</b>

Jayne Bargent cured Tourette's syndrome neurosurgery
A woman with Tourette's syndrome who suffered such terrible spasms she became a virtual recluse, has been given her life back following pioneering surgery. Jayne Bargent, 55, said she has been effectively cured of the uncontrollable and violent tics that left her unable to read, cook or walk in a straight line. She had suffered from Tourette's syndrome since childhood but over the past few years medication taken to treat the condition had started to make it worse. Doctors at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Bloomsbury implanted two tiny electrodes into her brain which were then connected up to a pacemaker battery in her chest.
