China's economy has been the envy of the world for a decade, but what about its transportation system? With the largest population in the world and growing, maybe we should be looking at its mobility. The economic superpower has built a 21st century road system to keep up with its new appetite for cars. Transportation economist and Vice President of Policy Research at Reason Foundation, Adrian Moore, says that China is using "pricing scientifically" to keep up with the largest car market in the world. He sat down with Reason.tv to talk about what many are calling, "the most important bilateral relationship in the 21st century." Moore has been working with China on free market transportation solutions for booming cities that are attracting hundreds of thousands of people every month. China's demand for cars is being driven by its new middle class, which is roughly the size of the entire population of the United States. Doing transportation right is something China can't afford to do wrong. Moore explains what it is doing right, wrong and what this "capitalist country" can learn from the "avowedly communist system". Bloomberg, Department of Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan and Citi CEO Vikram Pandit today announced that Citi will be the title sponsor for New York City's new bike share program, "Citi Bike." The $41 million agreement will allow the nation's largest public bike share system to be provided at a low cost to users and at no cost to taxpayers. The program will provide a new, affordable, 24/7 transportation option for New Yorkers and will launch in July 2012 in parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn. As part of the sponsorship agreement, Citi Bike branding will be displayed on the system's 10000 bikes and 600 bike docking stations. The system will be operated by Alta Bicycle Share and the City will split any profits with Alta. Mayor Bloomberg also was joined at the announcement in City Hall Plaza by Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Robert K. Steel, Alta Bicycle Share's President Alison Cohen and Ajay Banga, President and CEO of MasterCard, which has agreed to be the system's payment sponsor.

STORY: It's certainly a head-turner. Whizzing around the streets of Berlin - this is the "ErockIT". Half-bicycle, half-motorbike, Stefan Gulas has been working on his invention for the past four years: [Stefan Gulas, ErockIT Inventor]: "It's a motorbike and in a certain sense it's also a bicycle, because the motorbike works as a bicycle. So you have to pedal in order to travel forwards. The pedals act as a type of accelerator. So you don't have an accelerator on the handlebars but you have to pedal. And the quicker you pedal the faster the motor goes." And this pedaling also charges up the bike's battery. Gulas is convinced the ErockIT - which can travel up to 80 kilometers, or almost 50 miles an hour, is a transport revolution. [Stefan Gulas, ErockIT Inventor]: "The thing I'm most proud of is that we've managed to make a cool electric vehicle. There are lots of vehicles with petrol engines that are cool - you just need to go and take a look at them, Ducatis or cars like Porsches and Ferraris. They're cool vehicles, but they all have petrol engines." The bike may have the looks. But it seems people don't quite know what to make of it. [Martin Alridge, Likes ErockIT]: "From the speed, I'd say it's a motorbike, but he pedals it, so it's a push bike. So it's a bicycle. But an amazing thing, absolutely amazing. I want one."
