Ger Tzedek Takes Chassidic Music Scene by Storm

Jerusalem - Israels new sensation in Chassidic music is not from Jerusalem or Bnei Brak. Until a few years ago he was an African-American Christian from Ohio. In an interview to Israel's CH. 2 The Jews are the children of HaKadosh Boruch Hu, says rapper Yehuda Menashe, who studied in a New York yeshiva, converted and adopted a Hebrew name. He made aliya almost a year ago, and his speech is now a medley of English, Yiddish and Hebrew. His booking agent, Moshe Kornfeld, tries to present him as a major figure in the music scene. We met at the yeshiva, Kornfeld recalls. I simply saw someone who sings and makes others and himself happy. He sings from the heart. How can I not be a part of this? I said to myself. Since being discovered, Yehuda Menashe keeps a tight schedule. This week he led a couple to the chuppoh in song. Last week, at a Bnei Brak wedding, he shared the stage with top frum singers Dudu Fisher and Yishai Lapidot. A few days ago he performed at an upshoren in Meron and he sings at bar mitzvahs. He says he has no problem appearing before various audiences, whether charedi, secular or in between. Yehuda Menashe spends his time learning, looking for a shidduch and working on new material. I love Jewish music, says the young prodigy. Its better than non-Jewish music. I sing like Im davining. If someone sees me singing, for me its as if Im praying to HaKadosh Boruch Hu.

Ha'am Doresh Tzedek Hevrati

The 2011 Israeli social justice protests (Hebrew: מחאת צדק חברתי‎), which are also referred to by various other names in the media, are a series of ongoing demonstrations in Israel beginning in July 2011 involving hundreds of thousands of protesters from a variety of socio-economic and religious backgrounds opposing the continuing rise in the cost of living (particularly housing) and the deterioration of public services such as health and education. A common rallying cry at the demonstrations was the chant; "The people demand social justice!". As the protests expanded during August 2011, the demonstrations began to also focus on other related issues relating to the social order and power structure in Israel. The housing protests which sparked the first demonstrations began as a result of a Facebook protest group that initially led hundreds of people to establish tents in the Rothschild Boulevard in the center of Tel Aviv, an act which soon gained momentum, media attention and began a public discourse in Israel regarding the high cost of housing and living expenses. Soon afterwards, the protests spread to many other major cities in Israel as thousands of Israeli protesters began establishing tents in the middle of central streets in major cities as a means of protest. As part of the protests, several mass demonstrations have been held across the country, in which hundreds of thousands of people have participated. A major focus of the protests have been what organizers have ...

Uri L'Tzedek and Food Justice - Focus on Flaum's

This is the Jewish Channel's coverage of workers from the Flaum's Kosher Foods plant who spoke at an Uri L'Tzedek Beit Midrash about their experiences at the plant and what the Jewish community can do to make change. A little background: Flaums' is a Jewish owned kosher food maker that for years was in violation of labor laws towards its employees. The workers tried to raise their concerns with the management and were all illegally fired. The workers took them to court, and the National Labor Relations Board and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in their favor, fining the company around $300000 in back pay. However, the company is stalling payment. We are trying to raise awareness in the Jewish community to encourage the owners of Flaums to pay what they owe the workers and make this situation right.

Prayers at Vilna Gaon and Ger Tzedek - Graf Potocki tombs in Vilnus

Vilna Gaon was one of the greatest Jewish Scholar of all times. Ger Tzedek ("Graf" Walentyn Potocki) was the Polish nobleman who converted to Judaism in XVI century, and was burned at stake for this "transgretion". He was buried close to Vilno Gaon and his ashes were moved to the new resting place together with bones of Vilna Gaon - when soviets destroyed Vilnus Old Jewish Cemetery in 1949 - but allowed 7 poeple to be moved from there. In this video, I pray to Gd in Polish reading specific Psalm from Sidur. I hope Ger Tzedek was happy in heaven when he heard my prayer spoken in his mother language.
