How to Follow the USDA MyPlate Dietary Guidelines
Forget the food pyramid. The US Department of Agriculture's nutrition guidelines are now called MyPlate. Here's how to adhere to the USDA recommendations.. To complete this how-to, you will need: Fruits Vegetables Grains Protein Dairy Smart choices Step 1: Picture a plate Picture a plate divided into 4 sections -- fruits, vegetables, grains, and protein. Fruit and vegetables should fill half the plate, with veggies taking up a little more room than fruits; divide the other side between grains and protein, with grains getting a bit more space. Now envision a small cup next to your plate, marked "Dairy." Not soda. Dairy. Go to choosemyplate.gov to find daily MyPlate requirements of each food group according to age, gender, and level of physical activity. Step 2: Mix it up Eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables so your body gets a range of nutrients. Eating produce of different colors is an easy way to do so. Step 3: Choose your protein wisely Get your protein from omega-3 rich seafood; lean meats and poultry; eggs; nuts; seeds; and beans. Avoid processed meats like bacon and hot dogs. String beans are vegetables, not protein. Step 4: Eat more whole grains When filling a quarter of your plate with grains, make sure that at least half of them are whole grains, meaning they contain the entire grain kernel. Country of Origin Labeling is a labeling law that requires retailers, such as full-line grocery stores, supermarkets, and club warehouse stores, notify their customers with information regarding the source of certain foods. Food products, (covered commodities) contained in the law include muscle cut and ground meats: beef, veal, pork, lamb, goat, and chicken; wild and farm-raised fish and shellfish; fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables; peanuts, pecans, and macadamia nuts; and ginseng. Regulations for fish and shellfish covered commodities (7 CFR Part 60) became effective in 2005. The final rule for all covered commodities (7 CFR Part 60 and Part 65) went into effect on March 16, 2009. AMS-USDA is responsible for administration and enforcement of COOL.

Source: farmwars.info Just when we thought that buying "Organic" was safe, we run headlong into the deliberate poisoning of our organic food supply by the FDA in collusion with none other than the folks who brought us Aspartame. NutraSweet, a former Monsanto asset, has developed a new and improved version of this neurotoxin called Neotame. Neotame has similar structure to aspartame — except that, from it's structure, appears to be even more toxic than aspartame. This potential increase in toxicity will make up for the fact that less will be used in diet drinks. Like aspartame, some of the concerns include gradual neurotoxic and immunotoxic damage from the combination of the formaldehyde metabolite (which is toxic at extremely low doses) and the excitotoxic amino acid. The food labeling requirements required for aspartame have now been dropped for Neotame, and no one is clear why this was allowed to happen. Neotame has been ruled acceptable, and without being included on the list of ingredients, for: * USDA Certified Organic food items. * Certified Kosher products with the official letter k inside the circle on labels.
