September 6, 2011. Unemployed constituents, spurned by Paul Ryan on multiple occasions, were galvanized into action the Tuesday following Labor Day. After being unable to convince their representative to schedule a FREE public meeting following a week long sit-in, the members of his district converged on a one time only pay-per-view event far away from the majority of his constituents. At the luncheon, Paul Ryan's unemployed constituents repeatedly stood to ask him what he was going to do about the jobs crisis. But, instead of addressing his members in need, Ryan had the unemployed escorted out by police and made petty remarks. In one incident, a gentleman in his seventies stood to confront Ryan about his stance on "entitlements" and was grabbed by police. Scott's economic team, headed by the state's most affluent business leaders, quoted research by former Obama administration official Alan Krueger to claim that the unemployed are lazy and need to be driven off unemployment benefits: "According to [former US Assistant Treasury Secretary Alan] Krueger's research, the amount of time people on UC spent looking for a job averaged only 20 minutes a day! Within 2 weeks of UC ending, that increased but to only 70 minutes a day," states the document, noting that the median duration of unemployment benefits receipt has increased nationally from 10 weeks to 18.7 weeks. Stein said "The people who have been laid off and cannot find work are generally people with poor work habits and poor personalities. I say "generally" because there are exceptions. But in general, as I survey the ranks of those who are unemployed, I see people who have overbearing and unpleasant personalities and/or who do not know how to do a day's work. They are people who create either little utility or negative utility on the job. Again, there are powerful exceptions and I know some, but when employers are looking to lay off, they lay off the least productive or the most negative.
