Elvis Presley Peace in the Valley Written by Rev. Thomas A. Dorsey. Elvis sang this song on his third appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show on January 6, 1957. One week later on January 13, 1957, he recorded this version at Radio Recorders in Hollywood. Take #9 is the RCA Master. Gordon Stoker of the Jordanaires played organ on the track. Based on its appearance in the EP Peace in the Valley, it reached #39 on Billboards Top 100 chart, staying on the chart for ten weeks. en.wikipedia.org This is a vintage live performance by Jeannie C. Riley of her hit song, "Harper Valley PTA", written by Tom T. Hall. Riley was born in 1945 in Anson, Texas. This song immediately became a gigantic hit for Riley and went to number one on both the Billboard Pop and Country charts, a feat not repeated until 1981 when Dolly Parton released "9 to 5". Riley and the song became an overnight sensation, and the song earned her the Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and the Country Music Association Single of the Year award. Riley also became one of the very few country artists ever nominated in the major pop Grammy categories of "Best New Artist" and "Record of the Year". The song was a phenomenon which led to Riley making country music history in 1969 as the first female vocalist to have her own major network variety special, "Harper Valley USA" Then in 1978 there was "Harper Valley PTA" the motion picture, and in 1981 "Harper Valley PTA" the television show. *Recommend "high quality" mode. Jeanne Riley had cut a demo record for one of her songwriter friends, Royce Clark called "The Old Town Drunk." It was a sarcastic ballad of the old drunk that everyone in town made fun of until one day when they found his hat floating in the river and his shoes next to the river bank. The whole town got concerned and started dragging the river looking for his body. All the while the old town drunk was on the hillside, overlooking the entire scene, laughing. He finally came down and told the folks he was glad he was so well thought of. When the song was played for producer Shelby Singleton of Plantation records. He wanted to know, "who's that girl doing the singing?" Shelby had been presented a song from a struggling songwriter named Tom Hall called "Harper Valley PTA" but he was not sold on the song due to the arrangement and the voice of the singer on the demo. It was a definite copy of the song "Ode to Billy Joe" which was a hit a year prior. The voice of the singer was just too smooth, he thought. This song need punch and sarcasm. But once he heard Jeannie's rendition of "The Old Town Drunk," it clicked. And he said, get me that girl and a song I've got called "Harper Valley PTA" and I will cut you a million seller. On friday, July 26, 1968 Jeannie had been working for Passkey Music on Music Row as a receptionist. She closed the door to the office at 5 o'clock and walked next door to Columbia Studio. "Video of girls flogging in Swat was fake" www.thenews.com.pk "Monday, March 29, 2010 PESHAWAR: A resident of Swat, who claims to have prepared the fake video of flogging of a girl in Swat, has termed it drama and revealed that he received Rs0.5 million for doing so before the launch of military operation Rah-e-Rast. Before the operation Rah-e-Rast, an NGO financed preparation of fake video of flogging in which they portrayed the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) members flogging a woman. The provincial government and Malakand Commissioner Syed Muhammad Javed ordered investigations and sought report from the authorities concerned. After the successful operation in Malakand division, the law-enforcement agencies had arrested the children who were present in the video while a resident of Swat was apprehended by Kohat administration. The children and the arrested man revealed that the video was fake and said that it was made on the demand of Islamabad-based NGO which provided him Rs0.5 million. Sources revealed that woman who was flogged in the video was also arrested and she revealed that she had received Rs0.1 million while Rs50,000 were given to each child.
