The aftermath of Irene has completely cut off 13 towns in Vermont, leaving them without water and no way to escape. But, as Wyatt Andrews reports, as impressive as the damage is, the response by Vermonters was more impressive.

Sen. Sanders addresses the damage that occurred in Vermont due to Hurricane Irene. He speaks of his personal experiences while visiting the towns in Vermont most affected, "I was shocked and moved by the extent of the damage that I saw." Sanders takes time to thank those who have been involved in the effort to rescue and rebuild. He emphasizes that more than 2000 Vermonters have already registered with FEMA and many communities in Vermont were isolated because of widespread road damage. Three Vermonters have died as a result of Irene. Two, a son and father, were killed while inspecting a dam. Sanders closes with the sentiment that not only Vermont but other states hard hit by Irene are expected to be aided by Congress as other states have been in past natural disasters.

Jamaica, Vermont and the surrounding area experienced serious flooding as a result of Hurricane Irene. The water was moving so fast and furious that it was dizzying to look down. Springfield was quite fortunate. While many of the other towns in southern Vermont were flooded, Springfield was not.
