Genre: Adventure/Modern Art, Release: 2009, My Rating: 8/10 About the video: Some games are hard to describe - The Void is a good example. Is it a shooter? An adventure? Is it a game at all or is it somekind of modern art? The russian project is like a strange picture, bizarre, hard to understand, a strange journey into the human after-death-experience. You find yourself dead, only your soul is left in the cold and frightening void, a sphere somewhere between life and death. Youll see some typical scenes in the video. Game info: The Void is played from a first-person perspective. All game actions are done by drawing glyphs on screen using the mouse. When drawing a glyph, time slows down to allow the player to carefully draw it. Typical game actions are talking to NPCs, fighting predators or Brothers, collecting plants and growing gardens. Collected Lympha of color cannot be used directly to draw and must be processed in the hero's Hearts first into Nerva. The color inside Hearts also acts as the hero's health and character stats. There are 7 colors at the player's disposal — Silver, Gold, Violet, Azure, Crimson, Amber and Emerald - each one having its own properties while inside the players hearts and how they affect the void when used; for example, Emerald soften the blows from the predators and brothers while inside you, but when used in the void it incites jealousy in the Brothers, making them more prompt to rip hearts you have open in the Sisters. This Australian release does not have a halo number, making it the only commercially-available Nine Inch Nails CD released with that distinction. (The Capital G single was released to Europe as a non-halo'ed 9" vinyl in June of 2007.) However, a two-track promotional CD for "Into the Void", released only in the United States, was incorrectly identified as Halo Sixteen. Because it was not a halo release and was only sold in Australia, it is considered a rare release for NIN memorabilia collectors. The version of "The Perfect Drug" included on this single is slightly longer than the one released on the Lost Highway soundtrack. It fades out at the end instead of ending abruptly. It is the same version found on the We're In This Together PT. 3 single. This track and all of the other tracks on this disc can be found on other halos. A music video for the song was directed by Walter Stern and Jeff Richter. An alternate version of the video was later released. The video begins with a series of macrophotographic close-ups of Trent Reznor, including his eyes, hair, and mouth. The video concludes with the Nine Inch Nails band performing the song in a red room and eventually destroying their equipment and the set itself.
