The Walther PPS is a slim. single-stack 9mm pistol that should be comfortable for concealed carry. Upsides on the design include: very slim design, good ergonomics and simplicity, good sights, interchangeable backstraps, simple takedown, reported good reliability and accuracy, good trigger, excellent fit and finish, cocked indicator, long sight radius, long steel slide rails, and seemingly good durability. Downsides might include: unusual and overly complex magazine floorplate design, gun is rendered inoperable if backstrap drops out, limited firepower for its 22 oz, worthless grip stippling, very high cost, very limited holster and accessory options, and a different magazine release. For the money I would probably opt for either a Kahr or KelTec pistol over this Walther PPS but it remains an interesting design that could serve well in the concealed carry role. /////////////Nutnfancy Likeability Scale: 6 of 10

The diminutive Walther P22 .22 pistol is a fun plinker and I consider it a good choice as a recreational pistol. Shooters with small hands will appreciate its ergonomics, easily accessed controls, ease of loading (both mags and slide racking), and smaller grip. Other upsides include tactical looks, more blast and recoil for a .22 makes it funner, versatile configurations (can swap out barrels easily), and light rail. But make sure you are realistic about the gun's capabilities. While some may choose this as a backup defensive pistol, there are better choices that are more durable, more reliable, more compact, and lighter (like the Beretta Model 21A if you must go with a .22 pistol). Also this is not a target pistol, and as noted in the shooting session vid of the gun, it is hard to shoot well due to its coarse combat sights, small size, and relative lightweight (Model 22007 is 17.2 oz). A Ruger 22/45 or Browning Buckmark will probably be a better choice for most shooters in their acquisition of their first .22 pistol. Those full size plinkers are more durable, easier make hits with, have a longer sighting radius, and their extra weight (around 35 oz) is welcome on the range (just like a good 1911 that can shoot fast and stay on target). I find in informal competitions using my 22/45 that P22 users just can't keep up, solely due to guns' capabilities (and not skill). But when properly fed and maintained, the little P22 still cranks the rounds out with surprising speed and <b>...</b>

We used the same ammunition which was standard Winchester .22LR ammo we got at Walmart. Of course, the supressed P22 is quieter with subsonic ammunition, but it has a higher FTE rate so we just used standard ammo in both for this demonstration.

The Walther P22 .22 pistol is a fun plinker and I consider it a good choice as a recreational pistol. Shooters with small hands will appreciate its ergonomics size and ec onomical stance. Its an awesome looking tactical pistol plus it has a light rail. make sure you are realistic about the gun's capabilities. Also this is not a target pistol, but its surprisingly accurate and very cheap to shoot. when properly fed and maintained, the little P22 still cranks the rounds out with surprising speed and provides great fun. I recommend the use of quality and high velocity .22 ammo like CCI Mini-Mags to ensure proper function; use of promotional or wax-coated bullets cause misfeeds or jams. Also hold your little P22 firmly to avoid jams. But despite these limitations, the charm of the little P22 persists and it remains an attractive and fun-to-shoot pistol that doubles as a trainer for younger or femal shooters. It is a very easy pistol to convert to take a suppressor/silencer with many differing brands available, with just a small barrel adapter which takes a few minutes to fit. My p22 gets more use on my property than any other pistol i own.

I don't know if I was just cranky when I shot and reviewed this pistol, but I was a little on the hard side...That being said we did have: Out of ~400 rounds down range: - 4 Failure to Feed Jams - 2 Magazine Malfunctions (Both of which were user errors, but due to how the magazines were designed) - Many failures for the slide to lock back (This was determined to be user error as well, but demonstrated that people with larger hands and those that layer their thumbs during shooting will have a tendency to hit the slide release.) - 1 Failure to fire (probably due to bad ammo) - 1 Barrel stabilizer came lose and slide forward on the barrel. (this was unacceptable to me and the deal killer) - The slide failed to strip the round out of the magazine and go into battery many times due to it's hanging up on the hammer. (Annoying) The other problem I see with this particular model (the 5" model) is that you have to take the barrel stabilizer off to break the gun down. This was a pain in the neck and one of the things that killed the deal for me. When the gun is in the 3.4" barrel configuration it is very simple to breakdown. The front sights to me were not held on very secure and I could see bumping it <b>...</b>
