The great animation website "Cartoon Brew" called attention to LA Times writer Bob Pool's article about Ward Kimball's Grizzly Flats Railroad, which "ended its long run on a short track" in May, 2007. The railroad "inspired Walt Disney, excited neighborhood families and brought joy to the family that owned and ran it." The Tomorrow Show visited Grizzly Flats around 1978. If you're a fan of Ward Kimball, Tom Snyder, or railroads, life-size as well as model (I'm a fan of all) you'll enjoy this program, presented here in seven parts. Parts 1-7 run in order are the complete show minus commercials - about 45 minutes. Segments shot outside are in Parts 1,4,5 and 7; Model Train Room and Toy Room segments are 2,3,5, and 6. Matthew Ward (born February 15, 1958) is one of the pioneers of the Jesus music genre, later to be called Contemporary Christian music. He is best known as a part of the trio, 2nd Chapter of Acts in which he sang and performed with his sisters, Annie Herring and Nellie (Ward) Greisen. However, during his musical career with the 2nd Chapter of Acts from 1973 to 1988, he also recorded solo albums and continues to record and perform his solo work to the present time (2007). Matthew's music and ministry was in no small part, forged from personal family tragedy. In 1968 his mother, Elizabeth Ward, died of a brain tumor; two years later his father, Walter, died of leukemia leaving him and his youngest sister, Nelly, orphaned. The Ward siblings all decided that Matthew's older sister, Annie, and her new husband, record producer Buck Herring, should take in the two younger Ward siblings. Matthew's older sister, Annie, was a self styled (and self taught) singer and song writer who wrote and played her songs around the family piano. Matthew and sister, Nelly, would often join in as Annie played, and eventually they developed extremely tight and intricate harmonies. As the trio gradually started singing for local coffee houses and small gatherings, they eventually gained the notice of Pat Boone who arranged a contract to record and release two singles with MGM, "Jesus Is" (1972), recorded on Matthew's 13th birthday <b>...</b>

Ward Allen Tribute 2- Ward played with Wilf Carter, appeared on the Grand Ole Oprey and had a radio show with Frank Ryan on CFRA in Ottawa Canada. He played with his band the Happy Wanderers with Joe Brown on base who later created (literally the Brown family). I love Ward because he represents the high point of Canadian fiddling, based on the farming life in the 50s, 60 as opposed to the nouveau fiddling of today aka Celtic or Cape Bretonish. He played more single string, as opposed to the double bowing by our friend south of the border and never used the infamous jerkoff bowing methods. He made the fiddle ring but had a real sweet real note that came from his being. A special person who I never met but I understand through his music.I go overboard stressing the fact that this was a unique tune composed by Ward Allen in the best tradition of old timey music. Often people here in the US will play variations of the the song and say 'Hey this was a song brought over from the old country' but that is not true. The fact is old time music is still evolving as it is a people's music, work music and dance and fun music, like real folk music. Yes play it anyway you like but remember it is Ward Allen not you know what. It really bugs me when people absorb things liek this without really knowing or caring about the history.
