Theatrical trailer for the 1932 screen classic, TARZAN, THE APE MAN, starring Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O'Sullivan. Though scripter Cyril Hume's mono-syllabic portrait of Tarzan was a far cry from Edgar Rice Burroughs' well-educated jungle lord, it became the template for most screen interpretations of the character for over two decades. Even so, former Olympic swimming champ Johnny Weissmuller and contractee Maureen O'Sullivan, were so popular as Tarzan and Jane -- they made six films together -- that, over three-quarters of a century after the release of this film, they still remain the two actors most associated with the roles. During his reign as the Ape Man between 1932 and 1948, Weissmuller would star in twelve Tarzan films, before relinquishing his loincloth to Lex Barker. The same year he began another career trek as "Jungle Jim" in series of programmers for producer Sam Katzman, that would last through 16 feature films from 1948 and 1955 and 26 television episodes. In 1929, Johnny Weissmuller inaugurated the Molitor swimming pool in Paris. This wonderfull art deco building is planned to be destroyed in 2012. Theatrical trailer for the fourth MGM Tarzan adventure, TARZAN FINDS A SON (1939), starring Johnny Weissmuller, Maureen O' Sullivan, Johnny Sheffield, Laraine Day and Henry Wilcoxin. After the costly debacle of TARZAN ESCAPES three years earlier (--almost the entire film was re-shot, crew and cast members changed and scenes deleted after preview audiences complained of the film's gruesome nature--) , MGM let the property lay dormant until inmdependent producer Sol Lesser, who had also secured rights from Edgar Rice Burroughs for the Tarzan character, released TARZAN'S REVENGE (1938), starring Olympic athletes, Eleanor Holm and Glen Morris. Lessor's film -- a poor comparison to the earler, spectacular Weissmuller entries but a box-office hit -- provided the impetus for MGM to revive their series. Co-star, Maureen O'Hara, was reluctant to continue and, in the original script and preview prints, was killed at the end of the film, which is why MGM scripter Cyril Hume created the character of "Boy" (Johnny Sheffield), making Tarzan a single parent long before the idea was fashionable. Preview audiences complained at the sight of Tarzan's mate dying on screen, and additional scenes were film with her surviving. In return, the studio provided the fetching Ms. O'Sullivan more fashionable roles in-between her jungle assignments. « Je vous parle d'un temps que les moins de vingt ans ne peuvent pas connaître », chantait Charles Aznavour. Concernant Vigon qu'accompagnaient alors les Lemons, ce temps était celui de « Disco Revue » (1961), « Les Rockers » (1966) et « Rock and Folk » (1966). Si Vigon n'avait pas été le seul chanteur de rhythm'n'blues de l'hexagone il aurait été le meilleur, j'en jurerais, mais comme il fut le seul, il reste un cas à part. Notre époque hyperbolique voyant des légendes partout, je ne dirai pas de lui qu'il est une légende. Seulement qu'il fut le seul, — qu'il est le seul et unique. Mais dans le fond, pour « Disco Revue » ou « Les Rockers » : pop, rock ou rhythm'n'blues, tout ça c'était du même tonneau. D'abord à cette époque-là, ou c'était la même histoire ou c'était rien. L'autre histoire, c'étaient les yéyés que nous ignorions voire abhorrions, qui squattaient la TV, la radio, la presse. Je dirais à la façon de Rimbaud que nous n'aimions pas les idoles mais les groupes qu'au soir fauve nous voyions hanter, là-bas La Locomotive, le Golf Drouot, le Bus Palladium, ou de par chez nous le Ram-Dam ou l'Eden-Ranch où « Harlem Shuffle », sa reprise du tube de Bob and Earl, en 1963, passait quasiment en boucle entre « Soul man », « Knock on wood » ou « Sweet soul music ». En ce sens, je veux dire dans le petit monde du rock, pas à SLC, sa version d'« Harlem shuffle » en 1967 fut un hit. Et quoique Lille ne soit pas Domrémy, il a fallu cet appel historique du 18 juin pour qu <b>...</b>
