West Side Story-Tonight

Probably the most famous song from this classic. Inspired by the balcony scene in Romeo and Juliet.
West Side Story- Cool

The Jets try to play it cool after Riff's death. I think this is one of the best performed and arranged sequences of the film. Can you imagine expressing repressed anger through pirouette? Genius. And I love how they stare into the camera (supposedly where the Sharks are) in the end.
West Side Story-Tonight (Ensemble)

The climax of the story, when everything goes together. I always got chills watching the "tonight there will be no morning star" part.
West Side Story-America

Bernardo (George Chakiris) and Anita (Rita Moreno)are hot, hot, hot! Everyone in this film is excellent, but these two really stand out. No wonder they both got Oscars for the role. I also include the little drama before the song because I love seeing them bickering like an old married couple.
West Side Story - Trailer [1961] [34th Oscar Best Picture]

Westside story is the award winning adaptation of the classic romantic tragedy, Romeo and Juliette. The feuding families become two warring New York City gangs- the white Jets led by Riff and the Puerto Rican Sharks, led by Bernardo. Their hatred escalates to a point where neither can coexist with any form of understanding. But when Riff's best friend (and former Jet) Tony and Bernardo's younger sister Maria meet at a dance, no one can do anything to stop their love. Maria and Tony begin meeting in secret, planning to run away. Then the Skarks and Jets plan a rumble under the highway - whoever wins gains control of the streets. Maria sends Tony to stop it, hoping it can end the violence. It goes terribly wrong, and before the lovers know what's happened, tragedy strikes and doesn't stop until the climatic and heartbreaking ending. West Side Story - Maria

Here is a compilation of photos from the 1961 Motion Picture "West Side Story" This particular version of "Maria" was not in the Robbins/Wise film but on the original West Side Story (1957 Original Broadway Soundtrack). This version sung by Larry Kert is absolutely breathtaking and in my opinion, much better than the film version. I hope you enjoy it and please leave your comments. FYI: Watch the pictures in the video intently while listening to the song and you'll notice that at certain points the lyrics of the song and the pictures match up in timing to tell a story. I did this delibrately Hope you enjoy it.
