The 32 minute video was shot at the Computex 2011 in Taiwan. The presenter is Mike Angiulo, Microsoft corporate vice president. The first Windows 8 video, that Microsoft posted on June 2 on YouTube, offered a sneak peek of the touch interface of the upcoming Microsoft operating system. It caused quite the confusion, as many viewers assumed that the operating system would look like that on their desktop PC as well. From what we could gather, there will be a standard desktop interface available as well, with possibilities to switch between the interfaces. We will know more about this when the public Windows 8 beta is released by Microsoft. The four minute video was welcome, considering that it offered the first live footage of the upcoming Windows 8 operating system. Later that day, a demonstration was held at the Computex 2011 in Taiwan by Mike Angiulo, Microsoft corporate vice president which showcased the new operating system for more than 30 minutes. While you see more footage of Mike talking on stage, you will see live footage of the operating system as well. Probably more interesting than that are ...

Along with Sean Deuby, Michael Otey, and Jeff James, Paul walks through the touch-screen interface and the start menu. He demonstrates the picture password feature where you can use gestures to log in. Paul, Mike, Sean, and Jeff also dispel security myths regarding dual booting Windows and Linux on a Windows 8 machine. And they discuss the coming ARM processor tablets and potential application compatibility issues on Windows 8 tablets.

The upcoming Windows 8 release is expected to bring a large amount of different kinds of tablet devices into the market. These devices are typically equipped with desktop-like capabilities, and can basically run all today's existing Windows applications. Digia has been testing Qt Commercial with the Windows 8 Developer Preview, and both Qt C++ and Qt Quick applications work nicely. There were no modifications needed to make them run just like they do on Windows 7. However, in order to maximally benefit from the new things in Windows 8, the Metro style needs to be brought to Qt.

Just last week, we got our paws on Samsung's Series 7 Slate, and it's already making its second debut. This time around, however, it's sporting a much more mouthwatering setup. No, it's not dawning Lady Gaga's edible leftovers; this new look comes courtesy of Microsoft's much teased and hotly anticipated touch-friendly OS, Windows 8. As you've likely already heard, the latest incarnation of the operating system is something entirely new for Redmond, and, as it turns out, the world. It's unlike anything we've seen before, but that won't stop us from making comparisons. Like Apple's latest attempt at a desktop OS, Windows 8 borrows largely from its mobile kin, Window Phone 7, bringing its signature live tiles to tablets and PCs, and from what we've seen it does so effortlessly. Before we go ruining a good thing, however, we have to point out that this isn't everything Windows has to offer -- it's still a developers preview (and in turn, an OS under construction), and the device it's running on hasn't been approved as an official Windows 8 slate. Got all that? Good. Read on for our first impressions! You'll hear the words "Metro-style" almost endlessly surrounding the release of Windows 8. Live tiles, hidden menus and controls, large, flashy graphics, bold white type, multi-touch gestures: these are the characteristics that set the OS apart from its predecessor and, to some degree, from its competitors. You won't see any of the old, static Windows here, unless of course you ...

Windows 8 will be the first full version of Windows to support ARM-based hardware. That means you may be able to run the OS on tablets such as the HP TouchPad. liliputing.com There's currently no way to install Windows 8 on the TouchPad, or other ARM-based computers, but by using the Splashtop Remote HD app for webOS you can remotely login to a computer running Windows 8 to get an idea of what the operating system will look like on this tablet.

BY MARIA LOPEZ You're watching multisource tech video news analysis from Newsy. They were mere rumors, but now they have been confirmed. Confidential sources told Bloomberg -- Microsoft will present a new Windows tablet at the All Things D conference, which begins May 31st. Microsoft is rushing to adapt Windows to better support devices that can compete with Apple's iPad, which dominates the tablet market ... the company is eager to show it is moving forward. Will Windows 8 be a substantially improved version of Windows 7? Windows 8 News hopes so. Within the past year, Microsoft has been criticized for not delivering a sound OS tablet. "While Windows 7 is great and a veritable hit, it misses the mark by most tablet users standards. Microsoft's answer has almost been to wait for Windows 8, where it's rumored to contain multiple UI's with one designated for tablet-like devices ... Microsoft appears to be heading in a direction to use their Metro user interface." Citigroup doesn't think Microsoft is too late to the tablet party. In fact, it thinks it can grab a significant market share in 2013 and beyond. But, a tech blogger isn't so sure. "It remains to be seen if Microsoft can deliver both a good tablet and desktop experience with Windows 8. The company has been trying to shoehorn desktop operating systems into tablets since Windows XP, and that has never turned out well." Others suggest the rumored 2012 launch date might be too soon for Windows to release a Windows 8 ...

The Asus Eee Slate seems like it was designed from the beginning to run Windows 8. The newest operating system from Microsoft runs absolutely seamlessly on the Eee Slate's hardware and navigating the interface is a pleasure. Windows 8 shows a lot of promise as a tablet OS. However, it's clear that Microsoft did not want to go away from the desktop experience. Whether or not this is a win or a failure depends on the hardware being represented; the Eee Slate works very well, but its battery life isn't the greatest, and it's a heavy machine. The new Samsung Series 7 is supposed to have a much better form factor, but I'd like to see Windows tablets with the form factor of the Galaxy Tab 10.1, also with the 7-10 hours of battery life (the Eee Slate can pull off 5 at the most, the Series 7 is also rated at 5). Better battery is the only thing holding Windows back from making a comeback as a tablet OS (hint: it's been a viable tablet OS since XP Tablet PC Edition). Windows 8 doesn't feel like a dramatic difference or evolution of Windows 7. It feels like a service pack. That may turn some people off, especially if they're still running XP and never bothered with Vista or 7 in the first place. Microsoft is going to have to work hard to get Windows 8 adopted, especially in workplaces, where most are just now adopting Windows 7 for the first time.

This week on What The Tech: Paul Thurrott checks in from the Microsoft Build Conference. Paul shows off the first Windows 8 tablet from Samsung. Is it going to be an iPad killer? If so, what does it mean for Android tablets? Andrew and Paul also discuss Skydrive integration in Windows. Andrew asks Paul about how the Metro UI will work for power users that may not need, nor want the interface. And when can we expect to see Windows 8 launch to the public?

logiclounge.com - http - gplus.to || Yesterday Microsoft has a huge announcement and released the Windows 8 Developer Preview to show us what the upcoming Windows 8 is going to be like. The operating system is very different from Windows 7 and is in the right direction for what people want these days. Looking at the visuals of this system it looks much like the Windows Phone 7 with it's interface and how it's used. You'll see that the applications show up in a sliding display with icons just like Windows Phone 7 and can become interactive icons. At the announcement yesterday Windows 8 Developer Preview was giving to everyone at the announcement on a tablet, Microsoft seems to be looking into making a unified operating system that will work across computers and tablets. I enjoyed the developer preview and can't wait to see what Microsoft has in store for the final release.
