2011 West Virginia University Marching Band Armed Forces Salute
The concerts showcase the band's full complement of brass, woodwinds, percussion, flags and feature twirlers. We will perform musical highlights from the 2011 football season, including favorite pregame and halftime music. No celebration of our freedom can be complete without a tribute to the brave men and women who have sacrificed so much to preserve and protect our country. The WVU Band presents our "Armed Forces Salute," which features a medley of the songs from all branches of our great military. This selection will close with a stirring rendition of "America, The Beautiful." • The United States Army! • The United States Coast Guard! • The United States Marines! • The United States Air Force! • The United States Navy! No one can argue the great service that the men and women of the armed services have provided to our nation over the centuries. By serving in two World Wars, the Korean War, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Afghanistan, Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, and in the war on Terror, as well as continually providing support and aid to those in need when all types of disasters strike, our American service men and women have made us all swell with pride. Therefore, we pay honor to all the brave men and women who helped to make, and continue to make this country, the greatest nation on earth! 7-11 Launches Dream Machine in West Virginia
It's a very exciting day in West Virginia as the Dream Machine is just about to be launched at a 7-11 location, the first out of thirteen to be launched. The governor and the mayor would be here, as well aa city leaders and executives of 7-11, PepsiCo and of course, Waste Management. Thirteen Dream Machine kiosks would be introduced into the Primo Marketing 7-11 area. The Greater Charleston area will now have the ability to bring the recycling into the Dream Machine and to be able to bring bottles and cans that will help our community. It takes collaboration between citizens and officials and businesses to make recycling happen and that's what people are seeing today. If you think about 7-11, it's about convenience and if you think also about recycling, it's a matter of the habit and getting into the habit of recycling. So the fact that it could be convenient for people is fantastic. Earl Ray Tomblin, Governor of West Virginia said that it's a pleasure for him to be at the great kick-off of the PepsiCo Dream Machine. People at West Virginia like to recycle, he said, and one of the things about it now is it's so easy. "When you get out of your car or whatever you just walk right up here, you get your reward points and it's going to be aa great cause, that's to helping our veterans," he said. CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Union leaders say a National Rifle Association film crew tried to coerce West Virginia miners into bad-mouthing presidential hopeful Barack Obama on camera, and that the union plans a brief work stoppage in protest. The United Mine Workers will call for the stoppage at Consol's Blacksville No. 2 mine next week, union President Cecil Roberts said Monday at a news conference with representatives of Obama's West Virginia campaign in Charleston. Roberts said the union, which has endorsed Democrat Obama for president, is unhappy that Consol allowed the camera crew to ask miners leading questions about the candidate such as: "What do you think about losing your Second Amendment rights?" "This, I think, is an attempt to try to twist the facts here," he said. "We're just hoping people aren't misled." ... She tried to lead me into how to word the answers," Toothman said. "I ended the conversation about that point." Foyles never went on camera after watching the crew coach a co-worker's answers about her "concerns" about Obama. "It was my impression they wanted me to bash Barack Obama," Foyles said. A Consol spokesman did not immediately return a call seeking comment. When the hatemongers from Westboro Baptist Church announced they were coming to Charleston, W.Va., to do their usual 'God Hates Figs' bit (I decline to give them what they want - which is to use the media to propagate their own version of that line), Covenant House gathered a host of area folk for a flashy response. This is a video of a flash mob rehearsal in the Covenant House parking lot, set to a techno version of 'Country Roads.' Hi This Is Serena Ellison I am a Coal Miners Daughter.. You will see my dad all throughout this video, he is the one holding me the bald baby girl... My Grandpa Tony Farruggia is also in this video, as a baby standing in front of a coal train and later in life in the coal mines, also in this video is my Father in law, my uncle James who died in the mines, as well as MANY friends and locals here in WV. I am PROUD of what these miners do every day, not saying I am proud of how the companies treat them.....This song by the Great Blackwater Outlaws, "Covered in Coal" is used along with these photos of our hard working Miners as a Tribute to the worst coal mining disaster since 1984. We will never forget that terrible day April 5th 2010 in Raleigh County WV at the UBB Mine. They will be forever in our hearts as we reach out to lend their loved ones left behind a shoulder to cry on and a helping hand. Rest in Peace Miners, your babies will be taken care of. You will see a cola drag coming into Hinton Yard, a helper engine added to the end of train in front of caboose and then the train going up the hill to other end of layout.
