There "civilized" performance and classic beauty has always been a mainstay in the automotive world. However, for one brief shining moment, Jaguar created a monster!! The idea for the XJ220 was created out of a collaboration of engineers known as "The Saturday Club". This was an informal group of gear heads that included Jaguar chief engineer Jim Randle. Out of these meetings the concept for the XJ220 was born. Originally intended to utilize a V-12 engine, it was decided that a turbo charged V-6 (a first for Jag) would be better suited, as more hp could be obtained by using this unit than the V-12. . . . Classic Game Room reviews JAGUAR XJ220 for Sega CD from 1993, a racing game where you drive the exotic supercar in a variety of races all over the world! The Jaguar XJ-220 was a competing vehicle to the Ferrari F40 and Porsche 959 (ironically, both of those cars were in Test Drive II The Duel). It may not have sold well due to it's obscene price tag and sales issues but it does star in its very own video game on the Sega Genesis add-on, the Sega CD (or Mega CD). Jaguar XJ220 is an Out Run style driving game with good controls and excellent 16-bit graphics that, like a real Jaguar, suffers from a few issues that prevent it from being great. Bizarre cornering and bland track design make this game less exciting than it could be yet it remains playable and fun. www.longplays.org Played By /Y\ad/Y\atty Not a bad racing game. World Tour mode was played. Not a massive difference between the modes. World tour just seems to add the ability to choose your race. A tad difficult in places mainly due to the ai cars that treat corners the same as a straight line. Annoying when I have to get out the car and push round a 90 degree corner and the ai just speed past ;) Some of qualifing times are unreal too, not taking into account the need to slow down. On last race I went into pits just to show it a little. Didnt matter as I had enough points to win overall. Which brings to my last gribe, A single end screen, real rewarding and I dont now why there is even a constructers chapionship league table as it has no effect on the end of the game in either mode.;) A added the game over screen to the end of the vid which you get if you run out of money or lose ovall (not 1st on league table) Overall I think the Amiga version is better in presentation, gfx, sonix and gameplay. Using the sega-cd Rotation/Scaling processor for the racing doesnt really help it either and there is no real sense of speed in this version.
