BOMBsessions: Xeno & Oaklander By Clinton Krute The music of the Brooklyn-based group Xeno & Oaklander seems to come from an earlier time, when the beeps and whirs of the analog synthesizer began to creep up from the underground into the mainstream of pop music (or drag it down to the depths, if you prefer). The late 70s and early 80s synth music from which their work draws was a reaction to the sense of the alienation brought about by living in world that was becoming more and more digital. Sean McBride and Liz Wendlbo, the duo behind the project, still find these sounds relevant today, in both theme and means. Xeno & Oaklander excavate a forgotten music, re-imagining its forms for the present with a defiant and romantic nostalgia. Their debut album Sentinelle, out now on Wierd records, is a testament to their skill at shaping electricity and is overflowing with icy drones, oscillating tones, and excellent (and danceable) songwriting. After an epic performance of Preuss (a title taken from the particularly noisy auto body shop adjacent to their studio), McBride and Wendelbo sat down with BOMBsessions in their Williamsburg synth museum, to discuss the poetics of their songwriting, the relation of their vocal lines to Derridas Glas, and moving contemporary music forward by digging into the past. I managed to get out the other day for a very quick Maiden of the Xeno. I have the Typhoon 2W20 with a 95AMP ESC and a 3300 3S Battery. 6x4 APC Prop and Parkzone Digital Metal Gear Servos. I did how ever forget to put the Server skid guards on, So when I landed on the grass I broke the Server Arm on one side. I have new ones now and can't wait to take it out again. i'll setup Dual Rates this time to smooth out the controls. Hope you enjoy the video. Xeno Tactic (version 1.3) Mission 6 Level 79 This is an experiment to see how far I can get in mission six without resorting to juggling. It is impossible to beat this mission without an highly efficient and well honed juggling build, so this is simply a different type of strategy test. There are plenty of other videos on YouTube which illustrate how to assault the higher levels of mission six if that is what you are after. After much experimentation I remain convinced that this basic build template (being the same idea I used on my mission five video with a few minor tweaks) is the best non-juggling approach to mission six there is. There may be better spots to place turrets in the maze, better orders to build them in, or more efficient upgraded weapon selection, but I think the 22.5 degree slanted maze is the best framework to fine tune these ideas in. After many attempts I have concluded that level 79 is the absolute limit that a non-juggling build can take you to. Level 79 is like an impenetrable wall that only a thick block of DCAs sitting in the center of your map will take you past. But if you dump money into the DCAs and sacrifice the quality of your maze to do so, it is impossible to take care of the ground forces without juggling them back and forth for long periods of time. And as other videos have shown, the best way to do that is with SAMs and not plasma turrets because of the bunching. I tried a more ground defense heavy approach using three freeze turrets <b>...</b>
Xeno Tactic (version 1.3) Mission 5 No lives lost and no juggling. "Death Skew" This one took me a long time to perfect. I had experimented with many variant builds that like this final version sent the aliens across the maze from two different directions, crossing paths at the center. The more I tinkered with this idea the more I became convinced that it was the answer to beating mission five without juggling while still maintaining a perfect victory. (This build eliminates the bunching and overlapping that allows aliens to overrun turrets en masse by keeping the two groups separated on opposite sides of the maze. Yet they are still forced to go by every turret.) It seems trivial to beat this mission with a basic juggling build, but near impossible to get a perfect victory without resorting to juggling. So I kept plugging away and fine tuned this one until it was just as perfect as I know how to make it. Much trial and error and a few serendipitous discoveries along the way led to this final build. One of my earliest discoveries was that the aliens slow down while turning. I originally tried a maze at a 45 degree slant, but that gave them two squares of straight movement between each turn and allowed the multiplying slugs to explode through the walls at an unacceptably high rate. So I reduced the slant to 22.5 degrees as seen here, and everything changed. Now they have only one square of straight movement between alternate turns, and the slugs don't explode through the <b>...</b>
