Lee Greenwood - A Prayer for America: Yankee Stadium Memorial (23 Sept 2001) - God Bless the USA

Lee Greenwood - A Prayer for America: Yankee Stadium Memorial (23 Sept 2001) - God Bless the USA Lee Greenwood sings his patriotic hit song "God Bless the USA" at a memorial service titled "A Prayer for America," held at Yankee Stadium in New York City on 23 Sept 2001. Greenwood appeared with a number of other singers and dignitaries to remember the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. "God Bless the USA" is an American patriotic song written and recorded by country musician Lee Greenwood. The first Greenwood album it appears on is 1984's You've Got a Good Love Comin'. It reached No. 7 on the Billboard magazine Hot Country Singles chart when originally released in the spring of 1984, and was played at the 1984 Republican National Convention with President Ronald Reagan and first lady Nancy Reagan in attendance, but the song gained greater prominence during the Gulf War in 1990 and 1991, as a way of boosting morale. The popularity of the song rose sharply since the September 11, 2001 attacks and during the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and the song was re-released as a single, re-entering the country music charts at #16. The song was also re-recorded in 2003 and released as "God Bless the USA 2003". The song could often be heard on the radio after those events, and versions of the song are widely distributed online. With the three top five appearances in the top 100 Country Music charts during the song's lifetime (1991, 2001, and 2003), it has become the only song ...

2 1920s football games (Yankee Stadium, Army-Navy Polo Grounds)

From my grandparent's home movies. This appears to be at least two early football games in the 1920s; the first played at Yankee Stadium and the second, an Army-Navy game played at the Polo Grounds, both in NYC. The transition takes place about the 45 second point. From tubage07: The football game at Yankee Stadium is: 11/12/1927 Army 18 - Notre Dame 0 80000 attendance From lollar: The Polo Grounds footage was taken no earlier than 1924. You can see a shot of the CenterField clubhouse and grandstand, which was added in '23-'24....these were proly taken between 24-27." Thanks! According to Wikipedia, Army-Navy games were played at the Polo grounds in 1913, 1915, 1916, 1919-21, 1923, 1925 and 1927 so I would think it was one (or more) of those years. You'll see some football, the crowds, marching bands at half-time, the Army mule and the Navy mascot, a goat, and cheerleaders. The sign you see at :21 says "Please remain seated until the cadets march off, when game is over." See also www.youtube.com

Bob Sheppard 2000 - Bob Sheppard Day Ceremony Pt 2, 5/7/2000

Bob Sheppard (10/20/1910-7/11/2010). This is the second part of Bob Sheppard Day. This tribute video was produced by Mike Bonner and the NY Yankees and was played on the Yankee Stadium Diamondvision during this second part of the tribute to Bob Sheppard celebrating his 50th season as Yankee Stadium PA announcer. Bob was a genuinely admirable human being and a gentleman of the old school who represented a bygone era of aspiration and dignity. The sacred eloquence that Bob's work represented and epitomized has now officially past. He was a credit to his faith, his family, his friends, and to sports. He possessed unrivaled character, integrity, courage, and class. How lucky I was to even know this exceptional man since his sterling influence on my life echoed through to my very heart and soul. I shall miss him terribly. We shall all miss the magnificent Robert Leo Sheppard. Thank you all fellow Sheppard fans.

Metallica: Lars on rocking Yankee Stadium

Backstage at Yankee Stadium, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich told Rolling Stone that his band couldn't refuse an invitation to bring their Big 4 show with Anthrax, Slayer and Megadeth to the home of the Bronx Bombers. "There's never been a hard rock experience in Yankee Stadium," says Ulrich. "Ninety-nine percent of the rock experiences in New York are at Giants Stadium, the Meadowlands thing. So anytime Metallica gets a chance to do anything that's unique and different... getting to come here to the hallowed grounds of Yankee Stadium was something we couldn't say no to."
