Odd controls, awkward screen adjustment features and "forgettable" mouse support make this a sloppy PC game even if the game seems cool, the 360 version is supposed to be far more solid. Control Yar (now a chick with armor) with the left analog stick and aim her firing with the right, Yars Revenge has players doing two things at once. Stay alive, destroy enemies and rack up big points with a multiplier.

It was created by Howard Scott Warshaw, who also wrote the 2600 titles Raiders of the Lost Ark and the much-derided ET the Extra-Terrestrial. Yars' Revenge was Atari's best selling original title for the 2600. The new version was released on April 12th, 2011 on XBLA. It is still pending release for the PC and the PS3. It was developed by Killspace Entertainment and published by Atari. In this version, the titular Yar has been reimagined as a humanoid female in mechanized power armor Assassin turned revolutionary, you are a lone Yar left to die by your enslavers, the Quotile race. Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of YARS' REVENGE for the Atari 2600 VCS video game console system! This is the best selling original title on the wood grained classic video game masterpiece and rightly so, revenge has never had it so good. This 2600 cartridge came with an awesome comic book called the Qotile Ultimatum and you played as a crazy insect called a Yar which flies around space and shoots laser beams and stuff. Yar's Revenge is a true classic retro arcade style old school video game from 1981 that never gets old and hasn't aged a day. This is priceless video gaming for those of us who grew up with Atari and should be exciting for new gamers today used to the next gen systems. Yars Revenge has incredible gameplay and the footage shows this. It is fun, entertaining and above all terribly addictive. Shoot the Zorlon cannon at the Qotile! CGRHD takes a somewhat more serious look at this cartridge that should be in every Atari collector's possession. The ultimate space action mutant insect warfare shooter game. This would be really great if they released it again on the PS3 or Xbox Live Arcade XBLA consoles with updated 2D graphics (not 3D). I still think Yars' Revenge would make a great movie or anime. Gameplay of Yars Revenge Level 1 at 99 Multiplier with 23000000+ score. I can probably get more. The trick is not to hold down the right trigger as I see many reviewers are doing. If you hold it down, the multiplier bar goes down quicker. Pick your shots. Crabs are weak against the rail gun. The bipedals are weak against missiles. Use powerups accordingly. Pretty easy on normal. I believe you can go through every level while maintaining higher multiplier. Stay tune for more.

Gameplay from the Atari 2600 game Yar's Revenge, emulated in Stella. Yar's Revenge is one of the many Atari brainchildren of Howard Scott Warshaw. He got the names "Yar" (the player character's species) and "Razak" (the system they live in) from the name of Ray Kassar, the CEO of Atari at the time the game was developed. You play as a Yar, a mutated housefly that can shoot energy missiles and eat matter, trying to get the titular revenge on the sinister Qotile for destroying one of your species' planets. Eat or shoot the shield to eliminate it, all the while avoiding a torpedo that hounds you and the ever-deadly Swirls the Qotile launch at you. Summon the Zorlon Cannon by eating a shield bit or touching the Qotile base, then fire to launch the cannon shot. If you hit the Qotile or a Swirl, the Qotile is destroyed and you can celebrate... until they come back. How a game that sounds so ridiculous and seems so primitive can be so damn good is another testament to the power of a classic.

_____I FIXED YAR'S REVENGE for the PC. Well, I fixed the day-one version that the Atari dudes sold to me. What, you want me to fix YOURS too? You want me to come over to your place, draggin' my sixty-pound toolkit through some HOT, MUGGY weather and work my greasy claws to the marrow...just to make YOU happy? Hah, dream on! Why don't ya fix it yerself? I got the recipes right here. Now get to work: -- To deal with the BROKEN CONTROLS IN STAGE 2 and beyond, you have four options: 1. Use a 360 controller EMULATOR for FREE: code.google.com --A little irony for ya, I use a 360 controller emulator with a usb-to-ps2 controller thingy. Essentially, it's trickin' my PC into thinking that a ps2 controller is a 360 controller. Confused? Too bad! All that matters it that it works, dang it. 2. Buy a 360 controller. Use that clunky thing 'till it wears out. 3. Buy the XBLA version of this game, then go play it on your 360. 4. Wait for the PSN version: Buy it, and play it. --Course, ya gotta wait fer Sony to fix up PSN...someday. That also means I can't play Tekken 6 against that local creepy Goth chick 'till then...grr. -- To RUN IN FULL SCREEN MODE with a resolution of your choice, do this: 1. Open ...Yars Revenge/win32/AppSettings.ini 2. Under [Renderer.Win32], set the "ScreenWidth" and "ScreenHeight" values to whatever one wants. For example, I use this setting: ScreenWidth=1280 ScreenHeight=720 3. Find the value "Fullscreen." Change it from 0 to 1. Do it like this: Fullscreen=1 <b>...</b>

To get to the Easter egg, pick either game 6 or 7. You have to hit the swirl in mid air with the missile in order to get the black line to show up. As the explosion is played, line your Yar to the line, and move vertically along the line. Wiki description: The game has an Easter egg. After killing the Qotile, if the player moves vertically along the line where the Qotile was killed, the programmer's initials, HSW, can be seen. This is typically done by shooting the Swirl in mid-shot, so that a vertical line appears on the screen. This ends the game. In game 6 or 7, JOV appears when this trick is performed, under the creator's initials. Atariage description: Kill the Swirl in mid-air, then move Yar to a position where the spot on its back is vertically aligned with the black "streak". "HSWWSH", the initials of programmer Howard Scott Warshaw, will appear. It took me hours to get the Easter Egg to work.

Yars Revenge has been remade into a rail shooter and it is AWESOME! The graphics, the music, and the art style rule. I suggest you buy it.
