Jewish Unity Project - Musical Havdalah with Yitzchok Meir יצחק מאיר ו חיילים Part 1

Yitzchok Meir (24), originally from New York, currently lives in the Old City of Jerusalem and works as a Jewish educator and musician. Yitzchok Meir began his dream when he moved to Israel alone aged just 17 and immediately began playing music and sharing his personal message on the streets of jerusalem. He received much interest from the public and soon found himself working for an organization called Todah L'Tzahal (thankyou to the army). He began performing and speaking to units in the Israeli army on a regular weekly basis about the lack of peace and respect between different groups and sects of Jews. (See links below!). The soldiers eyes widen as Yitzchok Meir introduces himself as "ultra-orthodox, orthodox, modern-orthodox, conservadox, conservative, reform, reconstructionist and secular!" He ridicules the separations we put up between each other, reminding us that we are all but one family. "It doesn't matter which unit you're in, you're still part of the same army. So too, it doesn't matter which sect you're in, you're still part of the same family." Having now spoken and performed to over 21000 soldiers ranking from coffee makers to high Generals, Yitzchok Meir inspires and motivates these young soldiers and officers. As well as this, Yitzchok Meir has performed for many different youth groups and jewish organizations world wide. These include Taglit-Birthright, Aish, JAM, JEC, Todah L'Tzahal, RAJE and various Jewish schools. Yitzchok Meir is passionate about ...

Rav Amnon Yitzchok against Jewish Singers

Rav Amnon Yitzchok against Jewish Singers Music Recently, Rav Amnon Yitzchak went to Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman to discuss the problems that he feels have emerged in contemporary Jewish music and the effects of the non-Torahculture on the Jewish music scene and singers. When Rav Yitzchak mentioned a certain singer, Rav Shteinman responded, "Is he secular?" and Rav Yitzchak responded that no, he is religious and that "there is no house in the religious world that doesn't have his discs." Rav Shteinman smiled and said, "I don't have his discs." For most of the video, Rav Shteinman does not respond to various comments of Rav Yitzchak, but listens as the latter shares his various concerns. matzav.com

Kristallnacht commemoration by Rabbi Yitzchok Adlerstein of Wiesenthal Museum of Tolerance in LA

The Simon Wiesenthal Center commemorated the 71's anniversary of Germany's "Night of Breaking Glass" or Kristallnacht with an event at the Museum of Tolerance. Rabbi Yitzchok Adlerstein, the son of a Holocaust survivor and the Wiesenthal Center's Director of Interfaith Affairs, began the evening by a retelling his mother's testimonial of the events of the night of 9 November 1938. He then offered a prayer, in Hebrew, to the souls murdered by the Nazis because of their misguided hate for Jewish people.

Cantor Gershon Yitzchok Sirota - Kol Nidre three versions

Gershon Sirota 1877 - 1943By Rabbi Geoffrey Shisler Not without good reason was Gershon Sirota spoken of as the 'Jewish Caruso.' Even with the poor quality recordings that we have of him today, it's quite clear that he had a most extraordinary voice and since he was a contemporary of Caruso (1873 - 1938), the comparison was bound to be made. An apocryphal story has it that Caruso would come to hear Sirota sing or conduct a service whenever, they were in the same town at the same time. Although at the head of this article it says that he was born in 1877, this is by no means certain, as details of his early life are not well documented. It would appear that Sirota started his career in Chazanut in Odessa, after which he was Cantor for eight years at the Shtotshul in Vilna. The choirmaster there was the renowned Leo Lowe with whom Sirota built up a fine working relationship. In 1902 he performed in a concert accompanied by an enlarged choir under Lowe's direction and the following year he sang at an historic reception that was held in honour of a visit by Dr Theodor Herzl. Five years later, Sirota was invited to occupy the position of Obercantor in the most prestigious position in the cantorial world at the Tlomazke Street Synagogue in Warsaw and it was not long after that Leo Lowe joined him there. In 1912, Sirota and Lowe visited America to give concerts, and it's said, that at his first appearance at Carnegie Hall, on February 14th, every single seat was taken. He ...
