Here is a quick take on the new Carl Zeiss Lenses Compact Primes. The new CP.2's are available in either Canon EF, Nikon or PL mounts. They have a small baffle in the rear of the lens that helps control lens flare. They are not cheap at around $3500 each but they are well worth the price. The glass is hand picked in Germany and they are uniform in size. Currently they are some of the few Cinema Style lenses that will cover a full frame digital sensor.

A well-aligned AF system and the use of the Live View mode as well as a focusing screen with split-screen indicator can make focusing more precise. Michael Schiehlen of Carl Zeiss talks about the Compact Prime CP.2 and Lightweight Zoom LWZ.2 lenses. Both lenses combine interchangeable mounts with outstanding optical performance. Three different mounts are available: PL, EF and F mount. The interchangeable mounts allow the lenses to be used with a wide range of cameras from traditional cine to HDSLR systems. In addition, Carl Zeiss will soon also be offering the Compact Prime CP.2 lenses with Micro 4/3 and A-mount. He also shows two new focal lengths for the Compact Prime CP.2 series: the 50 mm with macro and 100 mm with close focus function.
