Warren Zevon - Hit Somebody ( The Hockey Song) - David Letterman Show, 2002 (HD)

Warren Zevon & his son Jordan Live on the Late Show with David Letterman 2002. "Hit Somebody! (The Hockey Song)" is a song on Warren Zevon's 2002 album, My Ride's Here. It was written by Zevon and Mitch Albom. The repeated line of "hit somebody!" is said by long time friend of Zevon and television host David Letterman. It is one of Zevon's longest songs. He was born in Big Beaver by the borderline He started playing hockey by the time he was nine His dad took the hose and froze the back yard And Little Buddy dreamed he was Rocket Richard He grew up big and he grew up tough He saw himself scoring for the Wings or Canucks But he wasn't that good with a puck Buddy's real talent was beating people up His heart wasn't in it but the crowd ate it up Through pee-wee's and juniors, midgets and mites He must have racked up more than three hundred fights A scout from the flames came down from Saskatoon Said, "There's always room on our team for a goon Son, we've always got room for a goon" There were Swedes to the left of him Russians to the right A Czech at the blue line looking for a fight Brains over brawn--that might work for you But what's a Canadian farm boy to do? What else can a farm boy from Canada do? But what's a Canadian farm boy to do? What else can a farm boy from Canada do? The song appeared first on Zevon's 1976 self-titled solo album. It is reputed to be a friendly swipe at Jackson Browne, whose songs (such as "Here Come Those Tears Again" and "Sleeps Dark and Silent Gate" from The Pretender) could be quite dark. I'd lay my head on the railroad tracks And wait for the Double "E" But the railroad don't run no more Poor, poor pitiful me Poor, poor pitiful me Poor, poor pitiful me These young girls won't let me be Lord have mercy on me Woe is me Well, I met a girl in West Hollywood I ain't naming names She really worked me over good She was just like Jesse James She really worked me over good She was a credit to her gender She put me through some changes, Lord Sort of like a Waring blender Poor, poor pitiful me Poor, poor pitiful me These young girls won't let me be Lord have mercy on me Woe is me Well, I met a girl at the Rainbow bar She asked me if I'd beat her She took me back to the Hyatt House I don't want to talk about it Poor, poor pitiful me Poor, poor pitiful me These young girls won't let me be Lord ...

Warren Zevon - Gorilla You're A Desperado - Fridays TV Show, 1980.

Show aired on May 9, 1980. A rare & amazing version of a special song! Enjoy! "Gorilla, You're a Desperado" is a track from Warren Zevon's 1980 album Bad Luck Streak in Dancing School. About the Song: It's a comedic account of the narrator's visit to the Los Angeles Zoo, where a gorilla took his car keys, and proceeded to invade his life, leaving him in the zoo to take his place. Zevon's "gorilla" theme is not unique to this piece, in fact, a song called "Gorilla" was included on his first ever album back in 1969. To quote Warren's son Jordan, "Dad had obsessions with certain things. He had an obsession with gorillas, and he had an obsession with skulls. There was a plastic gorilla thing that had wire-rimmed glasses on, and he had a song called, 'Gorilla', on his first album, Wanted Dead or Alive." Similar themes echo to a certain extent in songs such as "Leave My Monkey Alone" from 1987's Sentimental Hygiene. Lyrics: Written by Warren Zevon 1980 Zevon Music BMI Big gorilla at the LA Zoo Snatched the glasses right off my face Took the keys to my BMW Left me here to take his place I wish the ape a lot of success I'm sorry my apartment's a mess Most of all I'm sorry if I made you blue I'm betting the gorilla will, too They say Jesus will find you wherever you go But when He'll come looking for you, they don't know In the mean time, keep your profile low Gorilla, you're a desperado He built a house on an acre of land He called it Villa Gorilla Now I hear he's getting ...

Warren Zevon - Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner - His Last David Letterman Show - Part 4/4 (HD)

On October 30, 2002, after Zevon's terminal mesothelioma diagnosis, he was featured on The Late Show with David Letterman as the only guest for the entire hour. The band played "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" as his introduction. Zevon performed several songs and spoke at length about his illness. Zevon was a frequent guest and occasional substitute bandleader on Letterman's television shows since Late Night first aired in 1982. He noted, "I may have made a tactical error in not going to a physician for 20 years". It was during this broadcast that Zevon first offered his oft-quoted insight on facing death: "Enjoy every sandwich". He also took time to thank Letterman for his years of support, calling him "the best friend my music's ever had". For his final song of the evening, and his final public performance, Zevon performed "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner" at Letterman's request. In the green room after the show, Zevon presented Letterman with the guitar that he always used on the show, with a single request: "Here, I want you to have this, take good care of it". Part 4: Warren performing a beautiful "Roland" for David Letterman. It was his last performance! To watch the whole show, follow that link: www.youtube.com

Warren Zevon - Hit Somebody ( The Hockey Song ) - Philadelphia PA, 2000.

An amazing "Hit Somebody"! I'm especially fond of the enthusiastic crowd! Acoustic Show at Theater of the Living Arts, Philadelphia PA on 2000-12-02. Hit somebody! was what the crowd roared When Buddy the goon came over the boards "Coach," he'd say, "I wanna score goals" The ...
