Part 1 of 2: I used Loctite epoxy putty to make a removable frame to hold a wide angle lens on a Kodak Zi8 video camera. I used epoxy, because it is not affected by heat as much as the moldable plastic you can buy online. I did not glue anything directly to the camera, nor did I have to take it apart to add a magnetic ring like a popular lens mod from china, so no warranty was voided and no damage occured to the camera.

I did a quick outdoor test video of the Kodak Zi8 in all its 1080p, 30fps glory followed up by the same shot at 720p 60fps. A surprisingly noticeable crop factor comes into play at 1080p, the image is zoomed in by about 50%. I wasn't expecting that. The clarity of the image is far greater in the 1080p but the 720p gives the expected increase in quality for moving vehicles. Compare the people walking to the cyclists and cars, for instance. NOTE: YouTube limits video uploads to ~720p 30fps, but you can still get an idea of the difference.

Finally stepping into the world of high definition camcorders, this is the unboxing of my Kodak Zi8. So far I am very impressed with the all the features that Kodak packed into a $200 class camera. Keep in mind, however, this is NOT my default camera by any means. I'll still be using my Panasonic for the majority of my videos, especially since it's better for zooming. Here is a cheap mobile phone telephoto lens adapter that fits onto the kodak zi8, pocket cameras, and the iPhone!! (and other similar camera phones) Get the lens here: www.amazon.com The lens allows you to achieve a depth of field with your fixed-focus camera. As you will see in the sample video, the lens cuts down the light dramatically. For best results use the lens adapter in bright daylight !! **I will note that this specific model is very cheaply made mostly plastic components. I'm guessing the other versions that you may come across will have the same plastic, cheap design. These lenses retail from $15-$50 dollars, but you should have no trouble finding one online for around $10-15. I would recommend not paying more then $20 due to their plastic and cheap design. To find your own lens, do a web search for: "cell phone telescope lens" But, with all that said, these lenses' are a fast, cheap way to achieve a higher quality look from your pocket video camera! Kodak Zi8 (Black) - I spent some time researching HD pocket camcorders and narrowed my options down to the 2nd generation Flip Mino HD and the Kodak Zi8. I chose the Zi8 based on its features (mic jack, 1080p, image stabilization, expandable memory slot, 2.5" view screen, etc.) and seeming overall image quality. So far, I'm pretty impressed. This was the first footage I shot right out of the box. You'll see that the lighting makes the shot. Indoor is so-so, outdoor (day) lighting is best and outdoor low-light (evening) is okay. But hey, what can you expect for $149? This footage was shot in 720p (30fps) mode. There's also a 720p (60fps) mode but that's reserved more for action shots (sports, etc.). I didn't think there really was a reason to shoot in 1080p for this YouTube video but I did capture some shots in 1080p and burned them to a DVD-R-- put that on the 60" HDTV and it looked great. The 1.06 firmware was already included on the camera right out of the box. I've heard/seen issues re: v1.05 so don't worry about that now, Kodak has resolved those issues. No weird lines on the view screen or the shot. No "jello" movement, etc. The 1080p can be a little extra jittery but that's why it's probably better to use the tripod. 2nd video uploaded: www.youtube.com

NOTE: I don't know what other camcorders this works on. I just bought it on eBay by searching. Trying out a macro and wide-angle lens kit for the Kodak Zi8 HD digital video camera. I'll use the lenses for unboxing and gameplay videos. Notes: You get two metal washers with the kit. The macro lens is magnetic, so that's how it attaches to the washer. The macro lens can be used by itself, but the wide-angle lens must be used with the macro lens. (It screws into it.)

This is a very basic overview of the external microphone input capability of the Kodak Zi8 digital video pocket camcorder. Although this camcorder is a low-priced, entry level, ultra-portable, simple point and shoot video camcorder, the capability of handling an external microphone for higher quality audio input sets this device apart from most others in this class. This video shows the audio variation between using the stock built-in microphone as opposed to a few different options for wired and wireless microphones.

hi all because i am no longer using sony vegas and because a few of you have asked me i decided to look to see if i could find some editing software that would work with the kodak Zi8. the best i found was: Movie Edit Pro 14 & 15 Corel Video Studio pro x2 Pinnacle Studio v14 these where the cheapest and the best for what you pay. sorry about the jumps. i am using movie edit pro 14 and i am not used to it yet. one thing to note, this video was imported straight from my kodak zi8. i didnt have to convert i just edited straight from the kodak. also the file was only 22 mb. not bad. hope you enjoy.
