As a poet, actor, and musician, Zola has emerged as the superstar of Kwaito and is a man blessed with many talents. Zola grew up in Soweto, in the ghetto called Zola, hence the name. Though he is standing on the brink of greatness, he is under no misconception of his past or future. Kwaito kids are made from hunger, abuse, no father, violence, guns Now as adults we must change the game for the better Now we must change everything we are made from. Zola And although Zola is by far the most successful kwaito artist in SOUTH AFRICA today, he is forever conscious of societies growing needs, pains and tribulations, which is why he tackles real issues that are effecting our South African people. But, Zola also doesnt forget that in all our sadness and pain we must yet again in true South African fashion rejoice and dance. Zola's previous albums have made him one of the biggest selling artists in South Africa. What distinguishes Zolas home grown sound from other Kwaito artists are his challenging lyrics reflecting an intelligence and maturity not often found in Kwaito music.

"Vessel" is the first exciting peek into the universe of CONATUS, the highly anticipated follow-up to debut album Stridulum by Zola Jesus. Produced by Nika Roza Danilova and Brian Foote and mixed & engineered by Brian Foote in Los Angeles, CA, the track seems at first listen the perfect progression from the dark balladry of Stridulum, with Nika's unique voice and powerful vocal style set against a more avant-garde industrial backdrop. '' Taken from the album ''CONATUS'' release date: September 26 (EU) & October 4 (USA) 2011 by Souterrain Transmissions. Struggling French writer Emile Zola is more concerned about exposing social and public injustices through his writing than he is about earning a living. However, he does ultimately become a success as a writer, and as a result lives a life of comfort and class. Late in his life, he, on the most part, places his life as a social crusader behind him. Late in the nineteenth century, French Captain Alfred Dreyfus, adamantly professing his innocence, is accused, tried and convicted of treason against the French republic and banished to Devil's Island. New information comes to light of Dreyfus' innocence, information suppressed by the French military in the name of protecting public morale and information which is brought to Zola's attention by Mme. Dreyfus. Initially not wanting to get involved, Zola decides to reignite his social consciousness by defending Dreyfus in the court of public opinion, at the risk of his own personal standing and safety. La Vampires & Zola Jesus Album: La Vampires & Zola Jesus Label: not not fun 2010 www.notnotfun.com " Neo-goth poster-girl Zola Jesus has teamed up with LA Vampires for a new split 12″ mini-album. Tracklist: 1. "Bone Is Bloodstone" 2. "In the Desert" 3. "Searching" 4. "Vous" 5. "Looking In" 6. "Eulogy" 7. "No No No" Zola -- real name Nika Roza Danilova -- is an up-and-coming singer and multi-instrumentalist who seems almost too good to be true. At the tender age of 21 she's already released a striking debut album (The Spoils) not to mention an incredible split 12″ with cult doom-merchant Burial Hex. Her music combines the theatricality and stormy romanticism of classic goth with an open-ended, artfully distorted musical language that seems to draw inspiration from a wide array of influences, including dub, shoegaze, noise and 70s psychedelia. Not long after unleashing her Stridulum EP, she's now teamed up with LA Vampires -- AKA former Pocahaunted member Amanda Brown. Brown's recent output has been no less exhilarating and hard to pigeonhole than Zola's: her kaleidoscopic contribution to a recent split LP with Psychic Reality was really quite something -- a heavily compressed gumbo of digital reggae rhythms, wheeling voodoo horns and deliriously looped vocal layers that you really need to check out (not so hot on the Psychic Reality side, but you can't have everything). The new Zola Jesus & LA Vampires 12″ comes courtesy of the ever-reliable Not Not Fun label, which has ...

Ghostly goings on from gothic psych queen Zola Jesus and kindred spirit LA Vampires (the current guise of Amanda Brown from Pocahaunted), who collaborate across this killer new mini album. 'Bone Is Bloodstone' rumbles into motion with those familiarly smudged out, indecipherable vocals and evaporating drum machines but there's a heavy bass groove and some ghoulish melodic developments set to balance out any of the more noxiously no-fi elements. www.notnotfun.com
