Hanging Leg Raises for fast Lower Abdominal Development.


How to do hanging leg raises, Simply lifting you legs does little to work the abs. Abdominals are engages maximally with spinal flexion and extension. The focus of the exercise should be about rolling the hips up to generate a maximum abdominal contraction, then returning to a good lumbar curve to relax and stretch out the abs. A good stretch at the end range of motion gives you an extended range of motion and allows for a better workout and builds flexibility. The speed of the contraction should be controlled. It's especially important to have definite beginning and ending points for your range of motion. I like to pause at each to avoid swinging and prevent using momentum from making the exercise too easy. Holding the contraction for a couple seconds makes the exercise even more intense. If you havent mastered basic abdominal crunches, and developed a strong core, then leg raises can cause lower back pain. This is primarily a hip flexor exercise unless if legs are raised past 90 degrees. When done correctly, these are some of my favorite ab workouts. Raise legs by flexing hips and knees until hips are fully flexed. Rectus Abdominis and Obliques only dynamically contract only if actual waist flexion occurs. With no waist flexion, Rectus Abdominis and External Oblique will only isometrically contract to stabilize pelvis and waist during hip flexion.
