2010 Vox AC30 Hand-Wired Head
The 2010 Vox AC30 hand-wired head from Vox's new handwired series is busting at the seams with authentic 60's tube tones. A quartet of EL84's brings the classic Vox chime, along with GZ34 tube rectification and a trio of 12ax7's in the preamp. This vintage circuit is hand-wired on a turret board and housed in a fawn tolex-covered birch-ply cabinet, just like they did it back in the day. The traditional Normal and Top Boost Channels are right where they should be for those unmistakeable AC30 tones, but a closer look reveal this head to be much more than a vintage reproduction. They have incorporated some very cool features into the Vox AC30 hand-wired head, including a half-power switch, a bright switch on the normal channel, bypassable Master Volume, and a footswitchable hot mode for extra gain. Vox AC30 C2
This is the (new as of April 2010) Vox AC30C2 amp. Played lightly, and quietly, with a Fender American Series 08 telecaster and a Line 6 DL4. I find the tone to be clear and spanky. just enough crunch to give it a nice character. Very dynamic, leaning toward the softer side with the top boost volume at around 1:00. Anyways, at this point YouTube is flooded with videos of the CC2 and I wanted to add more of the C2. The CC2 didn't really do it for me. the tone with the blues was great but i really love the simplicity of this amp. its a true plug-and-play amp.

Here's the VOX AC30. I do love this amp. It sounds wonderful, but as many vintage VOX fans will tell you, it's so unreliable, and as if to prove this point, as soon as I finished the session the amp developed a loud hum. So for me, the amp is a wonderful thing to have...at home.

VOX amPlug AC30 headphone amplifier - review and soundcheck
Hi guys! this time i decided to make a review/soundcheck of the amPlug AC30! I love this tiny thing, just plug your headphones to it and rock out! and by the way: everything you hear from the amPlug is DRY signal, no EQing or other effects, just the amPlug by itself! The electric guitar is a ESP LTD M-50, the bass is like the worst bass you probably could think to have (harley benton something) and the acoustic guitar is a Walden D350CEB! :) Hope you like this, and please tell me what you think of this review/soundcheck because this is the first time i do something like this! =) SUBSCRIBE TOO IF YOU LIKE!! :) God Bless! ~Torsten~

1964 VOX AC30 Top Boost
Quick Test of a vintage JMI AC30 non top boost with additional top boost unit in the back panel. Blue bulldog celestion speakers. The sound is basically the TB channel cranked and the rest controlled with the guitar. Lowest ambient noise I ever heared on an AC30. Great amp! Vox AC4 vs AC30. Comparison. Great audio!
Some people asked if the AC4 can stand up to the big brother AC30. So i made a few clips. I'm never touching anything but the controls on the guitar for the various tones. Just moving the mic to the same placement at each amp. AC4 setup: 4w cranked with tone at about 2 o'clock. Stock Celestion speaker. AC30 setup: Cranked, tone cut at about 2-3 o'clock. Treble at 2 and bass at 10 o'clock. Celestion Blue of course. Guitar 1: Fender American Standard Stratocaster with CS 69 pickups. Guitar 2: Gibson Les Paul with Seymour Duncan Antiquities. 1960's AC30 -- 2010 Vox AC30HW2X
Original 1960's AC30 on the left, 2010 AC30 on the right. Both amps in Top-Boost channel. Unfortunately, I left the 2010 AC30 on half-power (15 watts) during the test. It would sound even beefier if I had it on 30W. Also, camera is off-axis to the 1960's AC30, which means the 2010 AC30 is perceived as being brighter. Though the 2010 was a little clearer sounding in the room, the two sounded remarkably close in person... all of which doesn't transcend the video. Nonetheless, the tone rings thru no matter what, even in this video which was originally done so I could go home and have a listen for MYSELF only!

my new/old JMI 63 vox ac30 as is I still need to do some work on it change the tubes ect...but i had to make a quick clip. Its a non top boost model but i get all the chime i need. I used a dd20 and my Tele with 2 guitar tracks. I made the bt using a Roland TD6 drums and my Fender Jazz bass. I played to a keyboard loop i made. The beach scenes are my fav spot Misquamicut beach RI.

It is such a great sound. Due to time constraints, I had to split this into two videos (sorry about that!). Towards the end, I used a looper - a Digitech JamMan but a Boss RC-20 or a Boss RC-50 would do the same. GUITAR TONE - VOX AC30 C2 TUBE CHANGE & COMPARISON
Demo of AC30 tube replacement and tube sound comparison. VOX uses standard tubes in their amps. There are many replacement tubes on the market. The JJ Brand are inexpensive and a perfect replacement. For the sound comparison I recorded one track of each tune with the stock tubes. After I replaced the tubes with JJ Tubes, I then recorded a second track of the same tunes. Finally i just switched from track to track when I made the master version so that the sound of the stock and JJ tubes could be compared. To ensure the recording was done the same, I used the same guitar (Fender Roadhouse Deluxe Strat), set the amp at the same settings, placed the mic (Shure SM57) in the exact same position and recorded at the same levels. UPDATE (as of September 5, 2011) to my Video: I removed the 3 JJ pre-amp tubes (ECC83-S/12AX7). The sound was just a touch too bright & harsh on the normal channel. I left in the 4 JJ EL84 power-amp tubes. What did I replace the 3 pre-amp tubes with? The VOX used a select Ruby Tube (12AX7AC5 China) in position 1 (under the silver cap cover), so I used a Groove Tube Gold Series 12AX7C which in reality is just a very nice Shuguang 12AX7-A (China). I replaced the two 128X7B (China) tubes with Shuguang 12AX7-B tubes (China). The original magic VOX sound is back!

Vox AC30 and Gibson Les Paul dynamics
Just basics, but nevertheless, so important. Not audible through youtube really, but live you "feel" the dynamics. If the volume is much higher it's much more obvious and you can go from nice easy clean to screaming loud just by picking more aggressively. No effects, just guitar plugged into amp. I play sloppy, but I don't have the time to practice at all, so I hope it's watchable at least. I can play much cleaner when I warm up a little

Warehouse Speakers have long been a favorite of mine. Recently, I put two of the 'Alnico Blues' speakers in my stock vox AC30cc2 and cranked it up a bit. This video is the result! Tone comparison-VOX AC30 vs. VOX Ad15
I recently picked a vox ad15 up off of ebay for about 40 bucks on a whim and have been pretty impressed wiht this little guy! I wanted to show how similar or dissimilar the two sound (you make the call). I apologize for my rambling and stuttering-I had to put one of my dogs to sleep this morning and I am sad. I am just randomly noodling and playing open chords and barre chords-no virtuoso demonstration of talent!. I tried to get the amps to sound as close as possible but probably failed due to camera placement,etc. Oh well, I will probably do another one or two of these to show overdrive sounds and different guitars. Enjoy and let me know what you think! Does the AD15 come close enough to warrant buying one or not?
