TRAILER - Adaptation. (2002)

Director Spike Jonze delivers a stunningly original comedy that seamlessly blends fictional characters and situations with the lives of real people: obsessive orchid hunter John Laroche (Cooper), New Yorker journalist Susan Orlean (Streep), Hollywood screenwriter Charlie Kaufman (Cage), and his twin brother, Donald (also Cage). As Charlie struggles to adapt Orlean's best-selling book "The Orchid Thief," he writes himself into his own movie. The various stories crash into one another exploding into a wildly imaginative film. www.sonypictures.com

"Adaptation." (2002) -- Screenplay Seminar Scene

This scene from 2002's "Adaptation." very well incorporates all clichés of the writing (or any creative) process: the urgent desire to express oneself, the inconfidence appearing when evaluating one's own work, and the apparently self-confident and emotionally strong "outside world": The amount of people gathered in this screenplay-writing seminar illustrates the masses of people wanting to "learn" to write in order to express their feelings - apparently a quite general human desire. The amount of people attending the seminar emphasizes the widespread desire and serves in its abundance to communicate the force of this need. Watch Nicholas Cage's slouched composure and body language, as he plays the humorously oversubscribed (screenplay) writer Charlie Kaufman - a man doubting every aspect of his own existence, and being extremely inconfident. This portrayal contrasts starkly with the (a few moments earlier) self-proclaimed "asshole" seminar teacher (Brian Cox playing screenplay writing guru Robert McKee). He shows much more self-confidence by his much louder voice, his body language (he only looks at the questioner every now and then while the Charlie Kaufman character needs to stare continuously at the teacher) and his improvisation of dramatical scenes. Excerpt from "Adaptation." with Nicholas Cage as Charlie Kaufman and Brian Cox as Robert McKee. Written by Charlie Kaufman (and Donald Kaufman), directed by Spike Jonze, released and copyrighted by Columbia Pictures and ...

The VG Cats Adaptation With No Name - Episode 1

VG Cats created by Scott Ramsoomair www.vgcats.com Strips Adapted: #86 - Don't Even Ask About Waluigi #93 - Warm Places #111 - Tingle in the Tower #132 - Stranger Than Truth #268 - Karma Lost This one has been a long time coming. Ho yeah. Waaaaaaaaaaaaay back in 2005, there was something called "The VA Jam" - a weekly friendly competition on the voiceacting messageboard I frequent. It was meant to help us hone our skills as actors/mixers/directors etc. One such jam had us adapting several strips from a webcomic of our choosing into audio (or video, if one were so inclined) and that it be no more than 5 minutes long. I choose to do VG Cats, and with a little help of some of my friends (Autumn and Nick Tiner) we did a nice, little clip - one that even made its way to the VG Cats forum community and was quite well-received! And then I promptly forgot about it and went on to other stuff. Couple of years later, I saw that someone had adapted the audio from the VG Cats clip I mixed into a youtube video and I thought "Whoa. That's pretty awesome. I wish I could do that." and then promptly forgot about it and chased after magical rainbows with pots of gold at the end of them. Cut to last month, playing around with Windows Movie Maker (hsssssssssssssss!) I finally figured out "Oh the many snaps! I can do that!" and thus this clip was born! Many, many thanks to Autumn Stroble for agreeing to reprise her role of Aeris after so many years! And of course, a whole lot of thanks to ...

The VG Cats Adaptation With No Name - Episode 6

VG Cats created by Scott Ramsoomair www.vgcats.com Strips Adapted: #117 - The Thin Blue Line #146 - Number One #165 - The Pants Collector #190 - Da Bomb #204 - Muppet Babies Well, I kept up with the panel transitions I used in the previous ep, but totally ditched the small circle of hell that is Windows Movie Maker. So say goodbye to WMM and hellooooooooooooooo to Sony Vegas! It is shiny. I likes its shinynesses. And mixing is about 99.9999% easier to boot (though it's been said I've been prone to exaggeration - but those people what said that died from being thrown into the Sun by my very strong leg muscles)! Though now with the power of Sony Vegas behind this series and the myriad of options, filters and various thingamebobs now available to me - I think production may drag a bit from now on due to the number of things I *can* do. As opposed to the limited number of things I could do before. Which then crashed. And did stupid things. And then crashed some more. CONTINUOUSLY. Man, the castlist just keeps getting bigger and bigger with each subsequent episode. Thanks to everyone who stepped up to the plate and voiced their hearts out for this series! The strip I'm most happy about in this special is "#265 - A Magical Wonderland". This was all thanks to the combined efforts of Cody Coleman, Druoxtheshredder and Peter Gresser: Cody for the wonderful Frank Sinatra-styled crooning, Druox for the "Death Metal" Frosty music and voice and Peter Gresser for basically composing a whole new truncated version of "Frosty the Snowman" out of cloth - trying to match the version that Scott used in his strip. The audio mixed together beautifully with hardly any effort at all, and the translation to video was pretty much equally seamless. I love it when everything comes together so. VG Cats created by Scott Ramsoomair www.vgcats.com Strips Adapted: #122 - You Got Threeerved #125 - Foul Play #135 - Ode to Python #215 - CSI #239 - Bizzaro! Sound mixing and video editing is probably not something that you should do while sick or pregnant, but here I am! Just the sick part. I don't think I come installed with the baby oven option. Not a lot of drama for this episode apart from being sick and leaving mixing things to the last minute (as per my usual habit on important projects, haHA!). One person was actually missing lines for their character for an entire panel - but rather than delay this episode waiting for that one person to get their line in, I stepped in and filled the gap with the polystyrene seal of my voice. Try and guess where said gap in the dialogue appears! I think you'll be pleasantly surprised! Or somewhat shocked to hear my voice there, since the voice I played substitute for was a girl. Don't judge me. Other things: This episode was also going to have a longer tribute to the television show "Sliders" in "#239 - Bizzaro!" - splicing in some footage from the TV series (specifically the opening titles flashing through all the characters and a wormhole sequence) but after the scare I had with UMG pouncing on episode 2 for using the music to Schindler's List, I decided not to take the chance. And Up! #258 - Waiting After the exceptionally long liner notes for the previous episode I decided to keep this one brief. .... Ha! Me? Brief? That's funny. Anyway, I don't really have much to say about this episode - it's a pea-centric episode (barring one strip, as I only ever found four dealing with the peas) and it was pretty straightforward! Tried out a few new visual tricks here and there for my own amusement. Put in a couple of throwbacks and references to previous eps, as well as a tribute to the work of a certain magnificent voice artist/actor/director/magician that taught Superman how defeat Martians from Mars with a magic trick, whose greatest claim to fame was an advertisement about peas. Also, a giant planet-sized robot that ate planets and other robots not as giant as he. And he also made some big important movie in the 40s or something, I dunno about that one. Adaptation is a great movie written by Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, Synecdoche New York). It compares how people adapt to their social environments to how organisms evolve. It is also a discussion of passion, or lack there of, and dislocation. Great performances all around, especially Meryl Streep.

VG Cats created by Scott Ramsoomair www.vgcats.com Strips Adapted: #149 - Ninja in the Night #159 - Party Games #184 - Pungent Stench of Mildew #218 - Relapse #221 - Operating Buddy #272 - An Outsider's Perspective This episode is several days late, many apologies for that. I just haven't been in a great mood recently and mixing a comedic series while in a bad mood is not something that works out all that well, if at all. And it was "not at all" in my case. I won't go into details here because I'm thinking of reworking my "sad" into "mad" and write an amusingly hysterical rant about it, but let's just say it involves the complete genocide of the bogan people of Australia and why it is not only a justifiable proposition, but the ONLY proposition worth considering as well. It'll have charts and statistics and other scientific-y stuff to prove my absolutely irrefutable point. Anyway, not the best way to announce this but if you watched this video all the way through you'll have noted that this is the "second-to-last episode ever". Yes, it is true. After episode 12, I will no longer be releasing the "The VG Cats Adaptation With No Name" on a bimonthly basis - all forms of schedulised VG Cats adaptation entertainment from my crew and myself will cease to be. I'd only really ever intended to maintain this schedule for a couple of episodes to get this VG Cats adaptation-ing out of my system, in any case - and 12 seems to be a good an episode as any to end things on. Prison Work Song from The Piano Lesson, August Wilson

In the play, this is "'Berta 'Berta," a prison work song the men learned while in Parchman Farm (Penitentiary) in Mississippi. You can hear its roots in the field songs of slaves and in gospel call-and-response, as well as the relation to its distant descendant, rock 'n' roll. Actors: Charles Dutton, Courtney Vance, Carl Gordon, Tommy Hollis. Dir. Lloyd Richards. Afterwards, hear a short clip of a real prison work song. Interesting fact: Dutton was a real convict (possession of a deadly weapon and assaulting a prison guard) before becoming an actor. I LOVE listening to this song.

The VG Cats Adaptation With No Name - Bloopers Special

VG Cats created by Scott Ramsoomair www.vgcats.com Sorry folks, no new episode this week. My recent bout of sickness has left me with a Leo voice that sounds like Darth Vader trying to do Roger Rabbit. Great if I wanted to sound like Darth Vader trying to do Roger Rabbit - not so good for Leo. So while I'm waiting for my voice to get back to 100% have a blooper reel! It has us voice actoring people doing silly things while trying to say lines which are also quite silly. You may find it amusing. A proper episode to come August 15th! Starring: Sean "sonicmega" Chiplock Cody "YdocNameloc" Coleman Lucien "luciendodge" Dodge Stephen "Shard Spider" Lynch "D-Mac" Deven Mack Erica "Rikachuu" Mendez Kamran "DaBiggieK" Nikhad Chris "Kirbopher15" Niosi Autumn Stroble Edwyn "Omahdon" Tiong Soundtrack: (in order) Little King's Story - Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy Sound Effects: Final Fantasy 8 Thanks for the listen! And watchin'!

Orson Welles - War Of The Worlds - Radio Broadcast 1938 - Complete Broadcast.

Orson Welles - War Of The Worlds - Radio Broadcast 1938 - Complete Broadcast. The War of the Worlds was an episode of the American radio drama anthology series Mercury Theatre on the Air. It was performed as a Halloween episode of the series on October 30, 1938 and aired over the Columbia Broadcasting System radio network. Directed and narrated by Orson Welles, the episode was an adaptation of HG Wells' novel The War of the Worlds. The first two thirds of the 60-minute broadcast were presented as a series of simulated "news bulletins", which suggested to many listeners that an actual alien invasion by Martians was currently in progress. Compounding the issue was the fact that the Mercury Theatre on the Air was a 'sustaining show' (it ran without commercial breaks), thus adding to the program's quality of realism. Although there were sensationalist accounts in the press about a supposed panic in response to the broadcast, the precise extent of listener response has been debated. In the days following the adaptation, however, there was widespread outrage. The program's news-bulletin format was decried as cruelly deceptive by some newspapers and public figures, leading to an outcry against the perpetrators of the broadcast, but the episode secured Orson Welles' fame.
