Clark Terry was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended Vashon High School there and began his professional career in the early 1940s by playing in local clubs before joining a Navy band during World War II. Afterwards, he played with Charlie Barnet (1947), Count Basie (1948 to 1951), Duke Ellington (1951 to 1959), and Quincy Jones (1960). He also performed and recorded regularly both as a leader and sideman. In all, his career in jazz spans more than sixty years.

STEVE TURRE (United nations orchestra)


Steve Turre (born September 12, 1948 in Omaha, Nebraska) is an internationally renowned trombonist, recording artist, arranger, and educator. In 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2006 he won the Down Beat Reader's Poll for best trombonist. He was raised in San Francisco, California by Mexican American parents, and at first studied violin. However he switched to trombone at age ten and later studied at University of North Texas. In 1968 he played with Rahsaan Roland Kirk, in 1970 he recorded with Carlos Santana, and in 1972 he toured with Ray Charles. He has been the trombonist for the Saturday Night Live band since 1984 and has taught jazz trombone at the Manhattan School of Music since 1988.

Canadian Brass


The Canadian Brass are a brass quintet founded by Charles Daellenbach, Stuart Laughton, and Gene Watts in 1970. In addition to maintaining a heavy international touring schedule, the Canadian Brass have recorded nearly seventy albums. They have commissioned, performed, and recorded hundreds of transcriptions and original works for brass quintet. Named the "world's leading brass ensemble" by The Washington Post and credited as "the men who put brass music on the map", they are best known for their ability to seamlessly cross between classical and jazz styles. The Canadian Brass are also known for their unique performance attire, consisting of black suits coupled with white athletic shoes. The Canadian Brass made its American debut at Washington's Kennedy Center in 1975. The current members are: Charles "Chuck" Daellenbach (tuba), Eugene "Gene" Watts (trombone), Jeff Nelsen (horn), and the "Trumpet Dream Team" to fill the two trumpet positions on rotating basis.
