pandanggo sa ilaw Philippine folk dance performed at the Santo Niño Fiesta in Columbia, South Carolina. Videotaped by Alan C. Geoghegan From wikipilipinas.org: Pandanggo sa Ilaw is a popular from Lubang Island, Mindoro in the Visayas region. This particular pandanggo requires skill in balancing three lighted oil lamps or tinghoy, one on the head and at the palms of each hand. It is characterized by lively steps and clapping that varies in rhythm in 3/4 time. The lights of the lamps are said to represent fireflies that are fluttering in the night.

The Apple Tree over footage I videotaped of the T'boli tribe Mindanao, Philippines, unused excerpt from "Preserving Culture, The T'boli of Mindanao." I didn't incorporated this segment into the final documentary because I didn't want to send the message that the T'boli needed religious conversion from outside influences: rather, The Apple Tree represents a universal message of peace, dignity & respect for other traditions and cultures. The T'boli, in their own way, honoring the earth & mother nature, have integrated a holistic world-view into all aspects of their life: the Apple Tree is a metaphor for their struggle to stay true to their customs & traditions in the face of encroachment by the modern world. Thank you for the participation of many T'boli tribal members who are featured in this video, as well as field production coordination Maria Wanan, Rosie Sula and Ursula Schloer.
