Ex-Canadian Pacific 4711 is now a Minnesota Comercial #71. It was a M636 until it original engine was replaced by a 3608 Caterpillar by Peaker Services Inc in Brighton Michigan in 1988,. It is now classed as a M630CAT. It was sold to the MC along with the #73, which has since been sold, and running on the WNY&P, which can be seen in my other clips. We wher not trackside when this three unit set left SaintPaul with a frieght, but we certainly did hear it, and the sound of the ALCO-GE-CAT was fantastic. Thanks for watching, Jackmp294...

Here we are in Kingston, New York, where we see ALCO RS1 401 of the Catskill Mountain Railroad as it gets started. The start-up goes smoothly and creates a nice amount of smoke. Enjoy the sounds of the engine starting up with a growl, the smoke from the stack, the great looking paint scheme, and the consistent chug of the 539T and the air compressor. A east bound CN freight leaves Foleyet Ontario on September 20, 1995 with a SD40-2 leading a MLW HR616. The sound battle starts, and goes back and forth with the two. EMD sounds great, but I perfer the sound of that ALCO prime-mover best. But that's only my opinion, since I'm and Alcoholic... Just some info on the HR-616. There was only 20 HR616 built. They where built in 1982, and retired early 1990's. The HR stood for high reliability, which they where not. Lots of electrical problems. The 616 was for 6 axles, 16 cylinder. Some where scraped, some went to NRE in Illinois. I can find nothing about them on their site. So who knows where they are now. Thanks for watching. Jackmp294.5...

This well-seasoned ALCO S6 originally built for the South Buffalo Railroad now sports a flashy ALCO demonstrator inspired paint scheme as it works for Genesee Valley Transportation's Depew, Lancaster & Western Railroad in Batavia, NY. The switcher features a 900 horsepower inline six cylinder ALCO model 251 prime mover with a turbocharger. Coupled to General Electric main generator, electrical switch gear and traction motors, this "little" switcher is by no means little in its abilities. The locomotive starts it's train on the DLWR's Batavia Hill as it rounds the bend leaving it's original NYC Peanut alignment to switch around to the NYC main (as relocated in 1955) to drop off cars for interchange on track five in CSX's Batavia Yard. It is one day after Hurricane Irene and luckily Western New York is okay for the most part. CSX was running no trains at this time as the eastern end of the former NYC mainline was very much under water.

Lehigh Valley 211 Alco RS3m (Alco Shell, EMD 567B, GE TMs all thanks to Conrail) is being started up for the first time this season. She was shut down and winterized at the end of last fall and is being returned to service on this summer day. Mike and I spent a good portion of the day performing various checks, prelubing her, tending to her needs and performing a partial 92 day inspection before starting her up to complete the rest of the items on the 92 day inspection list. After sitting and waiting all summer, she was almost reluctant to get up. Every startup after this one should be easier than the last. Mike had to use the layshaft to keep her going until she finally decided it was time.

On 3-20 and 3-21 2009 the Southern Appalachia Railway Museum in Oak Ridge, TN operated L&N 1315, an ALCO C-420 on a photo freight. Proceeds help the museum with expenses and restorations. A trip to the musuem is a worthwhile venture, even for the non-railfan, as an excursion with the musuem grants access, otherwise unobtainable, to the K-25 facility. This is where uranium was processed for the atomic bombs of WWII. It's a great ride, just don't bring any contraband, heavily armed guards will check your id and search your bags prior to departure.

Its a 3rd case in a row for me , expected a EMD but got an ALCo that too a KZJ one !!! This time its SBC bound 16529 Udyan express running about 35 min late with KZJ WDM3A taking the off link honours of the day ....
