Flipping through the cable channels, I saw this ad. There is a little character called 'Speedy'. Originally, the Speedy puppet was in TV commercials from way back starting in the early 1950s. The puppet was animated using stop motion replacement animation techniques (for the face). Speedy made various comebacks throughout the past years. This is the 2010 version.

The goal was simple - how can the ideas that defined the advertising industry in its infancy, inspire a whole new generation of creatives and marketers? We re-imagined and remade their most iconic ad campaigns from the 1960's and 1970's with today's technology, led by the creative legends who made these campaigns. See how Howie Cohen and Bob Pasqualina, the original Copywriter and Art Director of "I can't believe I ate the whole thing." came out of retirement to once again re-imagine her iconic ad in a film presented by Google and directed by Doug Pray.

Red food colouring in water at the bottom. Vegetable oil on top, then throw in a few chunks of alka seltzer. Fake lava lamp in minutes. The water and the colouring are more dense than the oil, so the oil floats on top of them. When I throw in the seltzer, it falls through the oil and doesn't react until it hits the water. Once in the water, it reacts, releasing bubbles of Carbon Dioxide gas. These bubbles trap some of the water, and together they float up through the oil - that's why we see the red blobs floating in the oil. When the blobs reach the top of the oil, they release the gas into the air, and with nothing to hold them up, they sink back down again.
