www.magictimelapse.ch A new series of timelapse movies which I recorded this summer and autumn in the Swiss Alps. Most locations are only reachable on foot, some need alpine hikes of 3-5 hours. I spent several weekends in cottages of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC), where I shot these clips. The music is from Beethoven's great 7th Symphony, 2nd movement. Locations are: Diavolezza (Bernina Range, Graubünden), Gleckstein, upper Grindelwald Glacier (oberer Grindelwaldgletscher), Flüelapass (between Davos and Engadin), Schwyz, Rigi, Triftgletscher, Glärnisch. From Salzburg to Monaco - Red Bull X-Alps 2011 - Day One
Red Bull X-Alps 2011: Race On! Today 30 adventure athletes set out from Salzburg on the race of their lives: the Red Bull X-Alps. At 11:30 they burst out of Mozartplatz in the city's center. Their ultimate goal is Monaco, 864 km away, but ahead of them they face Europe's harshest mountain terrain and extreme alpine weather conditions. Rules state they must cross the entire Alpine chain by foot or paraglider. Their route takes them through five countries and past eight turnpoints including many of Europe's most famous peaks. We journey up the longest cog railway in Switzerland from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen enjoying the worlds most beautiful really!-- spectacular view along the way. The ride begins with a dramatic 14-minute ascent that offers astonishing panoramic views of the valley below as you travel up to the village of Wengen, perched on the side of a steep mountain. As the train climbs up the side of the mountain you can see a majestic vista of the deep green Lauterbrunnen Valley, framed by steep hillsides dotted with farms and massive snow-covered peaks in the distance. The seating selection is a little tricky here because the first ten minutes has the best view from the left side of the train, looking into the valley, but then the tracks curve around in a switchback and the most incredible view of the entire valley shows up on the right side of the train. If the train is not crowded, you might be able to sit on the left side for that initial view, sticking your head out the window and looking backwards to take it all in, and then move over to the right side after the tracks curve. However, if it looks like train will be crowded, quickly grab a seat on the right side for the best view of all, which appears ten minutes into the ride just after the curve as the train approaches Wengen. This most amazing vista, when the valley is laid out before you in all its splendor, is only visible for one minute -- so you have to be ready for it, looking in the correct direction, with your camera <b>...</b>

Amazing pictures from Switzerland show where "jetman" Yves Rossy gave this incredible flying display, using a tailor-made jet pack. The aviation enthusiast leapt from a helicopter and performed a series of aerial acrobatics above the Alps. He then joined two jet planes in a synchronized flight. To synchronise their flight paths the jets reduced their speed to 220 kilometres per hour (137 miles per hour), which put their engines at a point close to stalling.
