American Airlines B737 departure from Los Angeles

Welcome aboard American Airlines flight 244 with service to Orlando! This B737-800 is now seen departing Los Angeles (LAX)! Flight time was 4 hrs & 50 min. I am not a fan of AA but there price was good and the departure time worked best for us. On this aircraft there are power ports but with my luck they did not work in my row! Besides that the flight was great! The flight crew was very nice and they came around multiple times during the flight offering complimentary drinks and snacks for sale. Enjoy the video! - - Interesting story: As usual I went into the cockpit and talked to the pilot and got some nice pictures :) My mother was out side with the first officer and she was telling him how I want to fly commercial aircraft one day. He said "You should talk your son out of it. It is not worth it. It took me 10 years to get where I am now & we don't make much money. My friend drives a truck for a major retail store and only makes $8000 less them me." An In-Flight crew member then said "You should always go for your dreams". That just blew my mind when my mother told me that! How can you tell a kid wanting to fly one day that?! I lost all respect for that man. As we exited the plane he said "have a nice day" to me and I looked him in the eye and shook my head and walked off the plane. That man right there should not be flying. If he thinks it is not worth it then why did he do it in the first place? I think he is a little crazy! Of course it is going to take a long time ...

American Airlines files for bankruptcy

nma.tv AMR Corporation, the parent company that owns American Airlines, has filed for bankruptcy protection. The announcement follows what can only be characterized as a disastrous stretch for the US carrier, posting yearly losses of $471 Million and taking a 79% hit on its stock price. A costly, on-going labor dispute between management and pilots is widely cited as the cause of American's woes. Stretching from 2006, talks recently broke down earlier in November when the Allied Pilots Association, the union representing American captains, refused to take a vote on a proposed contract. Thomas Horton, who is taking over the helm of AMR Corp. following CEO George Arpey's departure, claims American faces an $800 million cost disadavantage compared to other airlines when it comes to labor expenses. Also contributing to American's slide is its outdated squadron of planes, which gobble up expensive fuel. The carrier will proceed with a $38 billion aircraft upgrade, despite its Chapter 11 announcement. American has taken heat in recent years over its lucrative executive bonuses, a point that is bound to resurface as AMR struggles to restructure its finances. Top brass received $6.5 million in bonuses in 2009 alone, a year during which the company lost $375 million in its first quarter. American's fate, as well as what kind of impact passenger's might feel, is still unclear. The nation's top two airlines, like Delta and United, have gone onto flourish after filing bankruptcy ...

Alec Baldwin off Twitter after American Airlines feud

www.nma.tv Alec Baldwin has mysteriously vanished from Twitter after using the social networking site to badmouth American Airlines. The 30 Rock star was fuming after he was ejected from a flight from Los Angeles to New York on Tuesday for using his cell phone on-board. He began to lay into the floundering airline in a series of tweets, one in which he likened American's flight attendants to famously-strict "Catholic school gym teachers from the 1950′s." However, by Wednesday, all of the disparaging posts had been deleted and Baldwin's name on his profile changed to the word "Deactivated." Many of his 600000-plus subscribers had "unfollowed" him as well. News of Baldwin's blowup swept the Internet in real time, as passengers on Baldwin's flight tweeted what they saw. Baldwin himself quickly took to Twitter to explain what happened, claiming he was playing a game of Words with Friends while the aircraft was parked at the gate, waiting to take off. In a later statement released via The Huffington Post, where Baldwin often writes guest commentary, the actor elaborated that he was rudely singled out, as other passengers were using their mobile devices without repercussion. He apologized to his fellow passengers for his actions, but not to American Airlines. AA recounted a very different version of the incident. A post on the company's Facebook page alleges Baldwin cursed at the flight crew and snuck into the lavatory to continue using his phone, in blatant disregard of the ...

American Airlines Flight 2442 MIA-BOS (full departure video)

After all the MIA flights were delayed by 2 or more hours (mine was a 3 hour delay) we finally got underway back to BOS. You can see from my SAL-MIA video that we waited and idles on the Miami tarmac for a 1.5 hour. Originally we were to depart at 9:30PM to arrive at around Midnight. Nope did not happen. Boarding time now for AA2442 was about 12 AM, and we were setup for a 315AM arrival into Bostonia. F/A took advantage of our drowsiness and tiredness to wake us up for 3 seconds when he said welcome aboard our flight to Denver" people laughed for 2 seconds (actually i think only i and a 65 year old deaf lady found it funny) and then went back to getting comfy in their seats or to sleep. This vid includes walking around MIA's Concourse D, boarding at the Concourse, jetway boarding, sitting at the gate with announcements, pushback, some engine start, taxi, take off, and climbout over a gleaming partying South Florida. Note: sorry about the kid who wouldnt stop crying during takeoff, thank goodness he fell asleep ASAP the second stopped recording =/

American Airlines Files for Chapter 11; Latest Major US Airline to File Bankruptcy

American Airlines and its parent company are filing for Chapter 11, finally joining the other major US airlines who earlier sought bankruptcy protection. The Financial Times says that in the last decade American watched its competitors use Chapter 11 to shed pension plans and reduce structural costs, leaving the third-largest US carrier at a substantial disadvantage. American has continued to lose money while other airlines returned to profitability in the last two years. CEO Gerard Arpey has stepped down and has been replaced by American?s president, Tom Horton. For now, anyway, the bankruptcy filing is not expected to affect flight operations.

American Airlines...Dream of Flight

A beautifully produced documentary film produced by American Airlines in the 1990s. It really does make you want to fly. American Airlines was formed as a result of a conglomeration of 82 small airlines through acquisitions and reorganizations. Initially, the name "American Airways" was simply a common brand linking a number of independent carriers. These included Southern Air Transport in Texas, Southern Air Fast Express (SAFE) in the western US, Universal Aviation in the Midwest, Thompson Aeronautical Services and Colonial Air Transport in the Northeast. On January 25, 1930, American Airways was incorporated as a single company, based in New York, with routes from Boston, New York and Chicago to Dallas, and from Dallas to Los Angeles. The airline operated wood and fabric-covered Fokker Trimotors and all-metal Ford Trimotors. In 1934 American began flying Curtiss Condor biplanes with sleeping berths. In 1934, American Airways Company was acquired by EL Cord, who renamed it "American Air Lines". Cord hired Texas businessman CR (Cyrus Rowlett) Smith to run the company. CR Smith was a true visionary...emphasizing consistency and innovation. He is the true "father" of American Airlines.
