Pompeii's Amphitheatre
Pompeii's amphitheatre was built shortly after the city became a Roman colony in 80 BC. It was paid for by the town's senior magistrates Marcus Porcius and Gaius Quinctius Valgus. An inscription was set up to record their generority. The building is the earliest stone (permanent) Roman amphitheatre known. A riot in AD59 saw the Pompeians murdering rival supporters from nearby Nuceria during a gladiatorial show. The Senate in Rome closed the building to gladiator fights for ten years. The amphitheatre of Pompeii is prescribed content for the UK-based OCR examination board's A-level paper Cities of Roman Italy (CC6). The building's upper levels are now closed to visitors.

Aspendos: Stadium, Amphitheatre and Aquaduct Ruins - April 2010
This video features views around Aspendos in the Antalya region of Turkey. It begins with the ruins of the ancient stadium, before focussing upon the amphitheatre, which is the best preserved amphitheatre in Turkey. Aspendos or Aspendus (Greek Άσπενδος) was an ancient Greco-Roman city in Antalya province of Turkey. It is located 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) northeast of central Serik. The video ends at the ruins of the aquaduct, that served a large area of this land in ancient times.
