Los Angeles Arboretum

The Los Angeles Arboretum in Arcadia, Ca, is beautiful anytime of year. It is a magical place with peacocks running wild as well as wood ducks, mandarin ducks, herons, turtles and Canadian geese. A waterfall and brook flow into a lake where the Baldwin Victorian house used in Fantasy Island stands. It is a popular spot for shooting wedding photos, movies & advertisements. This 127 acre botanical garden is a wonderful place to visit over & over again. Admission & memberships are reasonable. I visit almost every week & have introduced many friends. I complied these photos & videos on ProShow Gold. Music is "Taichi" by Oliver Shanti. Slideshow by Sherry Novak. Contact: novaksherry@yahoo.com

Unwound - Arboretum

From the album "New Plastic Ideas" Lyrics: I'm alone and now I'm sorry I'm at home and now it's scary And it seems like somethings coming soon Day comes around and I won't wake up Dismiss the sounds of ill-defined make up It counts as loud but it just leaves me cold I was thinking disillusioned And you were sinking into memory All I do is create an illusion All I need is a little intrusion Form a sound with an idea Hope to drown before I see you Cause I was drinking my conclusion And I was finding my necessity

I made this video to show others the work the SCDGA has been doing at my home course, Arboretum. As you can see there are new baskets, new pin positions and other things going on at the course. Bridges are being replaced, fresh mulch being spread and trucks were out removing fallen trees. It's not finished yet but things are progressing nicely for the Hall Of Chains tournament. I just threw putters for this video since I was playing from the shorts. I had 3 different Ions. The song is "Blue Echo" by Umphrey's McGee, off their album "Local Band Does OK:

Washington State University Arboretum and Wildlife Conservation Center Groundbreaking Ceremony

It is impossible to imagine a world-class university without an arboretum. It reconnects you to the earth and is an important place for a university community to find peace and balance in a high-stress environment. Im particularly proud that this arboretum will be part of the legacy that my administration will leave for Washington State University, its faculty, students, alumni, and friends, and all those who value the joys of nature. -- WSU President Elson S. Floyd. Phase 1 of the Washington State University Arboretum and Wildlife Conservation Center project celebrates the first peoples of the region and the striking Palouse prairie landscape of the arboretum. Initial development features two miles of hiking trails as well as a Gathering Circle, a meeting place in the heart of the arboretum. The 170-acre WSU Arboretum and Wildlife Conservation Center will empower researchers, teachers, and students to demonstrate their skills and help build a center to explore creation of a future sustainable world. It is where we learn to celebrate life and land as we honor the past and create the future.

HD Lilacs at the Arnold Arboretum 2010

There are over 422 lilac plants of approximately 194 different kinds in the Arnold Arboretum collections. These include about 154 cultivars (cultivated varieties that have been selected by nurserymen and hybridizers for certain horticultural merits, such as flower size and color); the remaining kinds include 20 species and their botanical varieties, the parents of many of today's hybrids. Together they provide a season of color and scent that extends over five weeks each spring. arboretum.harvard.edu Boston,. Apr '10.

Bonsai Trees at the National Arboretum

The National Bonsai & Penjing Museum at the National Arboretum in Washington, DC has a collection of miniature trees and landscapes that are masterpieces of the Chinese art of penjing and the Japanese art of bonsai. Masters of these arts sculpt or "train" the trees, sometimes over many generations, to create the desired shapes. The oldest tree in the museum's collection (and the first shown in the video) is a Japanese White Pine that has been in training as a "living sculpture" since 1625.

Taltree Arboretum and Gardens, Valparaiso, Indiana

Until recently, Taltree Arboretum & Gardens has been one of northwest Indianas best kept secrets but now it's one that we want to share with the rest of Chicagoland! Taltree Arboretum & Gardens is on a mission to improve the quality of life for the south Lake Michigan region by preserving green space through the establishment and maintenance of woody plant collections, landscaped presentation gardens, prairie restoration and wetland conservation. Since its inception by the Gabis Family in 1998, Taltree Arboretum & Gardens has grown to become a wonderland natural fascination. Originally our mission led us in simply restoring natural areas, but by creating the Native Plant Garden with a certified Monarch Waystation, developing the scentual Hitz Rose Garden, building the Joseph E. Meyer Memorial Pavilion for events, and construction of a new Railway Garden historical attraction slated to open in the spring of 2011, were looking forward to the dynamic development of the Arboretum so that it will remain for future generations as an important resource for all to enjoy. Today, our natural areas and display gardens also fulfill a research and education need in northwest Indiana unmatched by any other local non-profit natural area outside of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and regional universities. Residents of the south Lake Michigan region may engage nature at Taltree through artistic, cultural, educational and historical events so that they may participate in and gain ...

Visiting the National Arboretum in Washington

From voaspecialenglish.com The United States National Arboretum is famous for its flowers, trees and plants. The Arboretum is just a short drive from the center of Washington, DC Yet visitors often feel like they are far from the busy city. Sam Augusta brought his one-year-old son to play by the water. SAM AUGUSTA We like to come and take a look at the fish, and the lotus flowers and a lot of the plants. Hes never seen the fish up close like this before. Joan Love often visits the Arboretum. She says she knows about almost every plant here. JOAN LOVE: I mean theres so much to see here and so much to do here. But one thing is, you dont even know youre in Washington, DC Youre just here in all this wonderfulness. The Arboretum also is home to what were once pieces of the United States Capitol. These sandstone columns formerly stood at the eastern entrance to the building. They were given to the Arboretum when the Capitol was repaired in 1958. Thomas Elias served as director of the Arboretum for 16 years. THOMAS ELIAS: The National Arboretum was established in 1927 by an act of Congress as a research and educational facility, devoted to studying plants, and disseminating information to the American public. Each year, the Arboretum sends scientists to collect plants from around the world. Those plants are brought back to Washington and planted. Some are used to study ways to grow plants with resistance to insects or disease. The Arboretum also has an area with plants that can ...

National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas, Staffordshire, England.

The National Memorial Arboretum honours the fallen, recognises sacrifice and fosters pride in our country. It is a spiritually uplifting place and is emerging as a world-renowned centre for remembrance. The Arboretum contains over 50000 trees, with more being added each year. There are over 150 memorials and plots for the armed forces, civilian organisations and voluntary bodies who have played a part in serving the country; and even HMS Amethyst's cat. A number of corporate war memorials - from British banks, building societies, and insurance companies - are also located in the grounds. At the heart of the Arboretum is the impressive Armed Forces Memorial, which is a tribute to almost 16000 service personnel who have lost their lives in conflict or as a result of terrorism since the end of the Second World War. At 11am on 11 November each year the sun shines through two slits in the outer and inner walls of the memorial, casting a shaft of light across a wreath in the centre. Within the Arboretum is the Millennium Chapel of Peace and Forgiveness where, at 11am each day, an act of remembrance takes place. Following the two minutes' silence, accompanied by the Last Post and Reveille, there is an introductory talk about the Arboretum. www.thenma.org.uk
