The former were designed for the vital role of reconnaissance, ranging ahead of the advancing Panzer spearheads to asses enemy strength and intentions. Whether on four wheels or employing the more distinctive eight wheel configuration German armoured cars would seem to be as much a symbol of the Blitzkrieg as the Panzers themselves. This compilation covers all these vehicles and includes rare ffotage of the late war "Puma" armoured car in Normandy. The German army also employed a gamut of half track types ranging from the diminutive 1 ton light vehicle to the heavy 18 tonner. Most common were employed by the Panzer Grenadiers in Panzer and Motorised infantry divisions. Their employment alongside the Panzers throughout the conflict is one of the defining images of the German army at war. Footage of nearly all the half tracks types is included from the pre-war German army through to the armoured half traks in action on the Oder in 1945.

Acting Corporal Martin Wotjak died in Afghanistan in 2009 after the Vector he was travelling in hit an IED. An inquest into his death was critical of the vehicle and it has been claimed that if he had been in a more heavily protected vehicle he may have survived the blast. The first new family of armoured vehicles developed for the British Army in decades has been unveiled at an arms fair in London. The Scout SV can be anything from a troop carrier and command and control centre to providing fire power equal to a main battle tank. It can also operate as an ambulance and can carry a huge amount of advanced technology. The Army will start taking delivery of them in 2015, with the project already five months ahead of schedule.

The MOWAG Piranha is a family of armoured fighting vehicles designed by the Swiss MOWAG, which since April 2010 has changed name to General Dynamics European Land Systems - Mowag GmbH.
