This is the first segment of the April Fools 2009 episode of Around the Horn. In keeping with the show's tradition of playing pranks on that day, Woody Paige hosted the show. So you know already it's going to be an interesting show. The panelists today are Bill Plaschke, Tim Cowlishaw, Jay Mariotti, and in Woodys stead is Tony Reali (I didnt realize he had done six shows as a panelist prior to this show!). The topics for the First Word are John Calipari being hired as the new coach at Kentucky and (for Woody) the Denver Broncos being willing to trade Jay Cutler (which they eventually did to Chicago). Let's see how the bumpy ride starts! No copyright infringement is intended.

News: Added lyrics below. Full details here: www.lukeburrage.com Here's a video I play during my stage show, and I play along with piano and sing too. It's the best footage I've got of me juggling around the world from February 2009 to January 2011. Lyrics (old lyrics, I think they've changed a bit since the last time I read them): In my home town of Berlin I'm know as quite the traveler I juggle everywhere I go I've sailed around Cape Horn I've jumped over the equator I juggle everywhere I go. By the lights of New York City On an island paradise On cliffs of Santorini In a bar that's made of ice These places sure look great, but just wait, there's one place I want to be so take me. Take me to Zanzibar But first I'll ride this elephant in India See the midnight sun in Norway See the burning hill in Turkey Bazars in Oman Bridges in Italy And ride this boat round volcanoes in Papa New Guinea I went up the Arctic And I saw the icecaps melting and in Spitzbergen I saw no polar bears And yet down in Dubai they're building pointless pointy buildings things like ski slopes in the desert, why build ski slopes in the desert? If you want to slide down ice Why not try a mountain, like this glacier in Argentina where I lost my clubs that day. If you want a grand adventure Climb this hill in Montenegro! Why not climb this dune in France? Why not climb these rocks in Spain? Take me to Zanzibar But first I'll freeze my hands off in Antarctica You know that Greenland's pretty icy And ...

Must be a very hard task to sail this further south of "the roaring forties" latitute. Man vs. Nature in great and powerful images. Refference: "The strong winds of the Southern Ocean give rise to correspondingly large waves; these waves can attain enormous size as they roll around the Southern Ocean, free of any interruption from land. At the Horn, however, these waves encounter an area of shallow water to the south of the Horn, which has the effect of making the waves shorter and steeper, greatly increasing the hazard to ships. If the strong eastward current through the Drake Passage encounters an opposing east wind, this can have the effect of further building up the waves.[19] In addition to these "normal" waves, the area west of the Horn is particularly notorious for rogue waves, which can attain heights of up to 30 metres (100 ft)." -- Shipping hazards chapter @ en.wikipedia.org

There's been a lot of buzz over the last few weeks about strange sounds being heard in the atmosphere. People around the world and here at home have reported hearing some bizarre noises. The latest were recorded in the Battlefords last weekend. Ian Hamilton, North Battleford's mayor, says he can't explain it. "What I experienced was a scraping sound, like a snowplow." Mike Halstead, a North Battleford resident, was lying in bed when his phone rang. Calls and text messages came in from his friends, each reporting strange noises. "That's when the goose bumps got me and I thought 'that's awfully strange'." It's now days after and the city is still abuzz with talk about the sounds. Everyone has his or her own theory. But the phenomenon has stretched beyond North Battleford. Similar experiences were reported in Saskatoon, northern Saskatchewan, and parts of the USA and Europe. University of Saskatchewan professor Jean-Pierre St. Maurice says there is a natural explanation. "Somehow they are picking up noise from an electrical antenna that is there. That is electromagnetic noise. " St. Maurice says its normal and there is nothing to worry about. Whether a scientific explanation will satisfy all the people who heard something they can't explain is up in the air. What's causing the mysterious sounds coming from the sky that are so loud they set off car alarms? www.dailymail.co.uk Mystery Noises and Booms Shake Clintonville Homes 2012 www.youtube.com Strange sound in Germany ...

Spring-Summer 2011 Red Label is sporting Reprieve... Vivienne Westwood has designed a necklace pendant of a heart symbolising hope. What success have Reprieve had with the cases they have been involved with? Reprieve has secured the release of over 60 prisoners from Guantánamo Bay (including every British prisoner) and we still act for 20 more. This phenomenal number is more than any other NGO or law firm. In addition, over 300 prisoners are no longer facing the death penalty because of Reprieve's work. We currently assist 60 prisoners facing the death penalty worldwide. One of our most famous cases is that of Binyam Mohamed - released from Guantanamo Bay in 2009 after a transatlantic court battle. What is Reprieve's fundamental reason and mission? Reprieve provides frontline investigation and legal representation to prisoners held outside the rule of law in secret prisons, or on death rows around the world. We investigate secret detention and torture in the 'war on terror' - from Guantanamo Bay and Bagram Airbase to new frontiers such as the Horn of Africa - and ensure that wherever possible, we bring these cases to the courts. Reprieve is different from other human rights charities in the UK: it provides frontline investigation and legal representation to individual clients. Reprieve investigators are deployed around the world to bring to light the facts that can make a difference in an individual case, or expose the frailties of an entire justice system. Loïck Peyron continued to demonstrate the form he has shown all week, leading his Energy Team to a spectacular win on the final day of America's Cup World Series racing in Venice. Peyron and his French crew have been perched atop the leaderboard all four days this week, demonstrating an impressive command of the Grand Canal race area. While the French built what seemed to be an insurmountable lead, Spithill kept the pressure on, closing the gap right down to the point where the result wasn't secure until the final gybe on the finishing line. As the horn sounded to signal victory, Peyron collapsed on the trampoline of his boat in dramatic relief, while his crew celebrated around him. In contrast to the leaders, the bulk of the fleet had trouble separating themselves and at one point became trapped in a very slow pile-up at one of the turning marks, with too many boats trying to squeeze between the mark and the nearby shoreline at the same time. Terry Hutchinson's Artemis Racing popped out of that incident in third place, with Emirates Team New Zealand chasing them around the race course -- even closing enough to incur a penalty for a slow motion collision -- before Artemis regained the advantage to lead the Kiwis across the line.

The Muscogee Creek Hymn style is completely unique in American music. With melodic roots in American Indian, Anglo-Scot, and American-African traditions, and Christian lyrical content in the Muscogee (Creek) language, these hymns are both a celebration of Christian hope, and a meditational vehicle for the remembrance of those who have gone on. Some of the hymns also commemorate the removal the Muscogee people from their traditional homelands in Georgia and Alabama to Indian Territory in the 1830s. Many of the Creek churches in Oklahoma are named after old tribal towns that were the Muscogee people's homes before the forced removal by the United States government. Hutchee Chuppa Church, therefore, is named after the town that existed where Alabama is today. A horn is blown four, long times both about 15 minutes before the service to let people know church is about to start, and immediately before a service begins. The entire church grounds comes to a respectful and reverent halt when the horn is blown. While the preaching, singing, and a lot of the talk around the church is in the Muscogee (Creek) Language, people of all tribes and races are welcome. As a result of that mix, Muscogee (Creek) Hymns are the true first form of American music that combines the Native American, African and Anglo traditions and makes them into something new. That could make it the first true "American" music. Naken cekerrete? Mvto!

The entire 19 Show Me Tell Me questions featured in the DSA Driving Test presented by www.thedrivingskool.com Q3. Show me how you would check that the power assisted steering is working before starting a journey. A. If the steering becomes heavy the steering may be faulty. Before starting a journey two simple checks can be made. 1) Gentle pressure on the steering wheel, maintained whilst the engine is started, should result in slight but noticeable movement as the system begins to operate. 2) Turning the steering wheel after just moving off will give an immediate indication that the power assisted steering is functioning correctly. Q4. Open the bonnet, identify where you would check the engine oil level and tell me how you would check that the engine has enough oil. A. Identify the dipstick, pull it out and check the oil level against the min/max markings. Q5. Open the bonnet, identify where the Windscreen Washer reservoir is and tell me how you check the level? A.
