Goodbye Vintage Tama Artstar I Cordia drums - Part B
This is the last time playing my Tama Artstar I Cordia wood drum kit that I bought used back in 1987 - I've had them for over 21 years!. They are vintage 1983, and right after playing, I packed them up and drove them to Akron Ohio to Lenny who bought them - enjoy Lenny!. These where bought used in 1987 when I lived in Oregon, most of the drum hardware was purchased new back in about 1985 by mail order from Zampino's Drum Shop in North Canton, Ohio - (Yes kids - that's how we bought stuff before the internet). What's funny is that I've had these drums while I lived in Oregon, Arizona, Ohio and Indiana, and now sold them to a guy in Akron that is just a few miles North of Zampino's Drum Shop - where I got most of the gear. Ah, the circle of drum life continues! I don't play much anymore, so my chops are pretty rough - I get about 10 minutes a week to bang on them maybe, but please feel free to comment anyway. It's always fun to hear from people. Not sure that the video will capture just how incredible these drums sound, but Lenny will tell you. Drums are Tama Artstar I Cordia Wood 16" x 24" bass drum, 13" & 14" toms, 16" floor tom, 6 1/2" x 14" Tama Imperial Star metal snare, Zildjian cymbals. Using a single vintage Tama/Camco bass drum pedal. Bass drum uses Emad kick side head with Evans EQ3 resonant front head - great combo!

Had some time off of work,and created this monster. The sound quality really doesn't do it any justice,but it sounds amazing mic'd,and in the room. Held together by the drum spurs,and every other drum lug. There are 2 bass drum heads on the seam of the drum,...but inside the drum,the center of both heads are cut out. Just the drum head RIMS are in place. There are two small pillows inside,killing just enough overring,which makes this thing sound INCREDIBLE! So,..if you have two bass drums lying around,a few extra hrs.,try it.

The Laguna Beach alliance for the arts held their annual art stars awards at {seven-degrees} in Laguna Beach on April 1st, 2011. The visionary arts award was given to local legend Lee Rocker ( Stray Cats ) - who also delivered the keynote address. The one-of-a-kind awards were designed by renowned bronze sculptor Louis Longi. Winners included LCAD president Dennis Power and artist Scott Moore. From the art awards program: LBaa is thrilled to be honoring Stray Cat, and renowned bass player, songwriter and longtime Laguna Beach resident Lee Rocker with a "Visionary Arts" award. Rocker has over 30 years of experience in the music industry, and said that to be a professional musician you have to know that music is not an easy job, but you just have to have a thirst for success, whatever that may be. Rocker grew up surrounded by music. His father is a Grammy-nominated principal clarinetist with New York Philharmonic and his mother teaches music at Hofstra University. Rocker, classically trained on the bass, shifted his focus to the enthusiastic rockabilly offerings of The Stray Cats in the 80's. Art Star No.11. L'ATLASSTAR, 2010. Gaffer tape and acrylic on denim. One of France's foremost urban artists, L'ATLAS is inspired by the symmetry of typography and the smallest architectural details. He once claimed 'manholes are more beautiful than all the paintings in the museum'. Born in Toulouse in 1978 and now based in Paris, he often works by spray-painting the streets with trademark labarynthine patterns, and later transposing them onto canvas. He was recently commissioned to construct one of his giant compass installations in the plaza of the Pompidou Centre and is currently taking his pictures on a world tour, exhibiting them in informal settings on the streets of Delhi, Jakarta, Rio and New York amongst other places.

For the first ArtStars* Field Trip, where we take the Hound to a quasi-abroad show, we washed up at the Burchfield-Penney Art Center in Buffalo. We were not allowed to roam from the long-winded gallery tour and lunch, never mind check out the wings, fat guys, and Target stores in western New York—the Albright-Knox Art Gallery is literally across the street. And we couldnt go. When we asked the PR chicks to unshackle us, they whispered back: We just dont have time. We were there to see Robert Gober, who is what you would call a typical ArtStar*—he lives in New York City, has graced the pages of Artforum, and has shown at the Venice Biennale. Gober was visiting to curate Heat Waves in a Swamp: The Paintings of Charles Burchfield, which runs until May 23 and travels next to the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City. But we couldnt help but wonder how exactly this David Bowie ArtStar* managed to match up beside what feels likeKenny G. Charles Burchfield is a depression-era artist who was friends with Norman Rockwell. He made watercolours. But here at this eighty-work show, Gober points out all the phallic symbols in Burchfields National Geographic world, and shows that he was rumoured to have dabbled in psychotropic drugs. Ibanez Artstar AF120 hollowbody, PRS Mcarty Pickups This is the famed Artstar series AF120. These are renowned for their quality sound and craftsmanship. They are distinct from the newer Artcore sries and of much higher quality. This guitar is in perfect shape. At most it has a few micro scratches. Other than that it is excellent. The neck is awesome. The sound is superb. The stock Ibanez Super 58 pickups sound very good and have an excellent reputation. However, I have changed these out with a PRS Mcarty Archtop pickup set ($189 New). PRS Mcarty hollowbody guitars start at around $3000. These sound fantastic, but I am including the original Ibanez Super 58 if you want to switch back. In any case the PRS pickups are easily worth $100+. Guitar does NOT include a case. However, I have a brand new TKL Hardcase I just purchased from Guitar Center. You can buy it for my cost of $90, or I will just return it to GC. It is made specifically to fit the AF120. I would prefer to ship it in this case. Yassine Mekhnache or ‘Yaze’ grew up in Lyon and worked as a graffiti artist before moving to Paris and fine art. Building from a starting point of the human face, Yaze creates semi-abstract paintings and life-size sculptures that vaguely resemble himself. His technique is unique: rather than spray paint, oils or acrylics, he works with a garden spray filled with inks and markers. Yeah Yeah Yeahs play Art Star and Date With the Night for their encore. This was the end of the show, and they said they forgot to use the confetti cannons, so they added one last track to the setlist; Date With the Night. It was one of the most exciting times I've had at a concert. The crowd was absolutely explosive, and crowd surfing got out of control. :) Sorry about the shaky camera... I was all over the place when the crowd got pushy. I also couldn't help but jump like crazy from time to time. They are absolutely my favorite band after the last two shows... Tama Artstar Cordia 1983: 22"x16" bass drum, 12"x11" and 13"x12" rack toms, 16" x16" floor tom. The shells are made by 2 outer plys of South American Cordia and the inner plys are of selected Birch. The bass drum are 9 mm thick, the toms are 6 mm; the beautiful lacquer enhanced the richness of the Cordia wood.
