Autism & Asperger's: What's The Difference?

Autism affects 1 in 110 children. The majority are boys. Symptoms may show up before the age of two. The extent can vary greatly but the approach to treatment should be the same. "The highest potential we think is going to be made by the kids that get the treatment early on," says Sherri Campbell nurse practitioner with The Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida. Determining the type of social disorder is crucial, from a severe, classic autism to the milder Asperger's syndrome. "Under the autism spectrum disorder one of the subcategories is Asperger's syndrome that's the one that I think is often missed early on," says Campbell. A distinguishing feature between the two is speech. "Asperger's syndrome there is no speech delay so those are the kids that really might look a little odd with their behaviors or social skills but they really move along nicely in school sometimes and are age appropriate with their development but they just have some socialization issues," says Campbell. Classic autism is linked to late speech and less developed social skills. "If I was really looking for some issues I would look for a lack of eye contact that's one of the classic hallmarks that associate with autism and that can be seen fairly early on," says Campbell. Lee Memorial Health System offers free, monthly screenings for autism. It covers a standardized, developmental checklist, to help parents get a head start on therapy. Aspergers Syndrome a Guide

Aspergers Syndrome is a condition that you are born with and is similar to Autism. Although some would say it is high functioning autism. The condition effects the neurons of the brain and thus things that NTs take for granted such as eye contact have to be learned. Also reading facial expressions and silent body language. In short this can make some people with Aspergers robotic and out of sync with their NT counterparts. The problem with Aspergers especially if born in the 70s is that it is hard to diagnose in Adults. Many adults go through life wondering why they do not fit in. Why they can't get a girlfriend or keep a job. Of course there are now more Female Aspies. Although this is meant to be rare a lot are turning up on youtube. I really do not believe a lot of these are actually Aspergers. Most of them simply are using it to get attention.

An Aspergers survivor guide to Dating

I did this Aspergers Guide ages ago and really have only just discovered it. It explains simple techiques that Aspergers people can use in order to succeed or at least get past that first date. Aspergers is related to Autism and thus people with it can find it very difficult socially. Further more people with it often say that they can't seem to get a girl or get a date.. Well dating is hard for an aspie I will not deny it. Most girls like a man to be in control, make eye contact and be confident. These things are alien to anyone with Aspergers.

Some subtle nuances I've learned that normal people just pick up and don't think about how they do it. Information came from "Socially ADDept" by by Janet Giler, its made for children so most of it probably wont help adults but there were a few sections that were useful. The part about the triangle however came from my gf and I don't know where she got it.

(2/2) Linus takes an Asperger's Syndrome test

So yes, I got a score of 34 the first time I did the test, this time I got a 40. Why is that? Well, I think that a big part of that is the fact that when I didn't know anything about AS I didn't know how I should act, I was trying to be "normal". After my diagnosis though I have become a LOT more at ease with myself and have started acting the way that makes me feel best rather than what society wants me to do. So yes, the more I found out about AS the more aspie I become. Not because I'm a wannabe-aspie, but because I simply realize that it's ok to have certain quirks. That is the whole reason why I made this channel, I want people to know that it's ok to be themselves. The test can be found here: www.wired.com

Sex! - Do you have Asperger's Syndrome?

(Watch the video response by thautcast, it mentions a lot of things that I didn't in this video and also a lot more practical advice than I give) Sex: a cheap ploy for viewership and also an excuse to talk about sex in public. No but seriously though: I don't really cover anything "bad" in this video however it IS about sex, just so you know. It is a topic just like any other topic and it deserves just as much attention. However, I do talk about personal experiences here so if you're my brother and you're watching this... well... suit yourself. Also, since I'm a partner now I really won't mind if you do the whole subscribe and thumbs up dance with me. :) Thanks to Nekkoart for the thumbnail, ask her to do yours too! www.youtube.com

Hygiene and disgustingness - Do you have Asperger's Syndrome?

This is an argument I've had with many people and I never really manage to get my point across. People get physically angry at me when I even talk about how I do things because they think it's "disgusting". Well, what does "disgusting" really mean? I'm not smelly or dirty and I have my health. Also, I'm not saying that everyone should do what I do because everyone is different and some people start smelling after just a couple of hours without showering so they might want to do it more often than me. My point in this video isn't at all about how you SHOULD do things but only that people don't understand how to think about hygiene. If you disagree... let me know and I'll fist fight you over it! Thanks to Nekkoart for the thumbnail, she wanted to spice my videos up a bit *loves* www.youtube.com
