I Love Assistive Technology!

Join augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) expert Nicole Lilienthal, MS CCC-SLP for an exciting glimpse into the world of assistive technology. See first hand how multiple alternative communication strategies are implemented to assist a nonspeaking adult, "Mr. P", with his goal of achieving communication independence. Examples of partner assisted scanning on a low tech communication device (lap tray) and 4 quadrant row/column scanning on a high tech voice output communication device (Prentke Romich ECO-14) are demonstrated.

MIT Assistive Technology: Universal Access

MIT's Assistive Technology Group is actively working towards implementing state-of-the-art solutions in order to make cutting-edge technology accessible to those who need it the most. The team develops low-cost and robust methods of plugging in any adaptive switch to fully access all software, apps, and functions on Windows computers and Android-based smartphones and tablets. These platforms, once unlocked, have the potential of becoming the ultimate assistive devices, allowing single switch access to a world of communication, environmental control, healthcare, entertainment, and other applications. Assistive Technologies - Let that voice be heard

My name is Anita Paratore and I am in my fourth year of university studying primary education. I have recently been researching how applications on the iPad and iPod Touch can assist children in the classroom. There are various applications that students can use to communicate, design and create. I have also found different articles and blogs that explore how these applications can benefit chidlren with ASDs. I would love to see further research on this issue which is why I created this iMovie.
