Astrophysicists Tell it Like it Is: A Song

This is a Neanderthalcouzin song. I mix music with certain messages, and vice versa. Astrophysicists Tell it Like it Is It's a light-hearted song and just playing around, but I use a lot of elements from electronica to metal to folk and 'world music', because I love music in tons of forms. I used samples of Nina Simone, DJ Shadow, and prisoners from a South African prison. One of the reasons I love real DJ's is because they can put blood and sweat in their music: they can take samples and cuts of a soul singer, with samples of someone, for instance, building a house or whatever, and like I did, use prisoner footsteps to make a beat that you'll bop your head to. This is a musical composition, inspired by Neil deGrasse Tyson. Some people seem confused by this. Check out my other songs if you like, Ive made a few by now.

Stars Could Have Wormholes At Their Cores, Say Astrophysicists

Chandra Finds Superfluid in Neutron Star's Core A new discovery from a famous exploded star has provided the first evidence for a bizarre state of matter in its core. Read more: chandra.harvard.edu Related news: Scientists investigate the possibility of wormholes between stars Source: www.physorg.com Wormholes are one of the stranger objects that arise in general relativity. Although no experimental evidence for wormholes exists, scientists predict that they would appear to serve as shortcuts between one point of spacetime and another. Scientists usually imagine wormholes connecting regions of empty space, but now a new study suggests that wormholes might exist between distant stars. Instead of being empty tunnels, these wormholes would contain a perfect fluid that flows back and forth between the two stars, possibly giving them a detectable signature. The scientists, Vladimir Dzhunushaliev at the Eurasian National University in Kazakhstan and coauthors, have posted their investigation of the possibility of wormholes between stars on arXiv.org. Read more: arxiv.org The scientists began investigating the idea of wormholes between stars when they were researching what kinds of astrophysical objects could serve as entrances to wormholes. According to previous models, some of these objects could look similar to stars. This idea led the scientists to wonder if wormholes might exist in otherwise ordinary stars and neutron stars. Unexplained Gamma-Ray Pulsar

From NASA Astrophysics and Goddard Space Flight Center. In December 2010, a pair of mismatched stars in the southern constellation Crux whisked past each other at a distance closer than Venus orbits the sun. The system possesses a so-far unique blend of a hot and massive star with a compact fast-spinning pulsar. The pair's closest encounters occur every 3.4 years and each is marked by a sharp increase in gamma rays, the most extreme form of light. The unique combination of stars, the long wait between close approaches, and periods of intense gamma-ray emission make this system irresistible to astrophysicists. Now, a team using NASA's Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope to observe the 2010 encounter reports that the system displayed fascinating and unanticipated activity. Every 3.4 years, pulsar B1259-63 dives twice through the gas disk surrounding the massive blue star it orbits. With each pass, it produces gamma rays. During the most recent event, NASA's Fermi observed that the pulsar's gamma-ray flare was much more intense the second time it plunged through the disk. Astronomers don't yet know why. Few pairings in astronomy are as peculiar as high-mass binaries, where a hot blue-white star many times the sun's mass and temperature is joined by a compact companion no bigger than Earth -- and likely much smaller. Depending on the system, this companion may be a burned-out star known as a white dwarf, a city-sized remnant called a neutron star (also known as a pulsar) or, most ...

Big Problems with the Big Bang Theory

www.evanwiggs.com Jason Lisle, Ph.D. Creationist Astrophysicist Most astronomers and astrophysicists today believe in a secular, naturalistic origin of the universe -- a big bang that allegedly happened billions of years ago. Few are willing to accept what the Creator Himself has said about the beginning of all things as recorded in the pages of Scripture, and as confirmed by scientific evidence. Answers in Genesis speaker and researcher Dr. Jason Lisle is one of those few astrophysicists that stand on the authority of the Word of God. An astrophysicist with a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado at Boulder, Dr. Lisle is now helping AiG (and the creation movement as a whole) refute the evolutionary account of origins—using his strong science background. He has designed several exciting planetarium programs for the Stargazer's Room at the Creation Museum in Northern Kentucky (near Cincinnati, Ohio). Among these programs is our very popular "Created Cosmos" -- an examination of the amazing size of God's universe. Dr. Lisle is an excellent and broad-ranging communicator, able to articulate challenging concepts in easy-to-understand terms. In addition to in-depth presentations on distant starlight, Einstein's relativity, and problems with the big bang, Dr. Lisle also has a number of captivating, well-illustrated layman-level presentations, covering a range of topics from astronomy and general science, to apologetics and dinosaurs. Dark Energy: Proof Found in Distant Galaxies

After years of theorizing, astrophysicists say mysterious "dark energy" does in fact exist in large amounts ... and it's potent stuff. After studying over 260000 galaxies, scientists at the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey—appropriately abbreviated as BOSS—now believe that 6 billion years ago gravity could no longer slow the expansion of the universe. At that temporal tipping point, dark energy took over and has been rapidly expanding the universe to this day. The dark energy was discovered in part by studying massive primordial sound waves that crashed through the universe after the Big Bang. And the idea that dark energy covers a whopping 73 percent of the universe and is making it expand fits in with Einstein's theory of relativity. By understanding more about dark energy, scientists hope to learn more about the universe's past, present, and future. Still as mystified as us? Don't worry; the Wu-Tang Clan's GZA has lectured on the topic at Harvard and NYU. Maybe next he'll come to a city near you.

A Journey into Deep Space

A Journey To Deep Space & The Edge of Forever. A new study authored by University of Utah astrophysicist Paolo Gondolo shows that the first stars, born nearly 13 billion years ago, may have been 400 to 200000 times larger than our sun and heavily influenced by dark matter, an invisible element that scientists say makes up most of the universe. Those "dark stars" were named by Gondolo's colleagues astrophysicist Katherine Freese of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, and graduate student Douglas Spolyar of the University of California at Santa Cruz, after the song "Dark Star" by The Grateful Dead. They may still be in existence, though they don't produce light and instead likely emit infrared energy, or heat, which can be picked up only by space-based telescopes. Astrophysicists previously thought dark matter played heavily into the formation of the universe, but never the formation of the earliest stars. Previously, stars were thought to form when hydrogen and helium atoms clumped and swirled together in what's called a proto-stellar cloud. They began to cool and collapse and become denser. That cooling and shrinking continues until the fusion of hydrogen into helium begins, which causes the star to emit light, Gondolo said. The new findings suggest that dark matter interacted and broke down, producing heat instead of light. As a proto-stellar cloud of hydrogen and helium tried to cool and shrink, the dark matter would keep it hot and large, preventing fusion from ...
