Charles Aznavour "Yesterday When I Was Young"

"Hier Encore" is a song released in 1961, written by Charles Aznavour and Georges Garvarentz. It was subsequently released in English (Yesterday When I Was Young), Italian (Ieri Si), and Spanish (Ayer Aún). It is considered one of Aznavour's greatest hits. Aznavour (May 22, 1924, Paris) is an Armenian-French singer, songwriter, actor and public activist. Besides being one of France's most popular and enduring singers, he is also one of the most well-known singers in the world. He is known for his characteristic short figure and unique tenor[2] voice; clear and ringing in its upper reaches, with gravely and soulful low notes. He has appeared in more than 60 movies, composed about 1000 songs (including at least 150 in English, 100 in Italian, 70 in Spanish, and 50 in German[3]), and sold well over 100 million records.[4] In 1998, Charles Aznavour was chosen as Entertainer of the Century by CNN and users of Time Online from around the globe. He was recognized as the century's outstanding performer, with nearly 18% of the total vote, edging out Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan. Aznavour started his global farewell tour in late 2006.

Charles Aznavour - Mourir d'aimer

Yesterday Charles Aznavour

Yesterday when I was young The taste of life was sweet as rain upon my tongue I teased at life as if it were a foolish game The way the evening breeze may tease a candle flame The thousand dreams I dreamed The splendid things I planned I always built, alas On weak and shifting sand I lived by night and shunned the naked light of day And only now I see how the years ran away Yesterday when I was young So many drinking songs were waiting to be sung So many wayward pleasures layed in store for me And so much pain my dazzled eyes refused to see I ran so fast that time and youth at last ran out I never stopped to think what life was all about And every conversation I can now recall concerned itself with me And nothing else at all Yesterday the moon was blue And every crazy day brought something new to do I used my magic age as if it were a wand And never saw the waste and emptiness beyond The game of love I played with arrogance and pride And every flame I lit too quickly, quickly died The friends I made all seemed somehow to drift away And only I am left on stage to end the play There are so many songs in me that won't be sung I feel the bitter taste of tears upon my tongue The time has come for me to pay For Yesterday When I was young...

Charles Aznavour - I Didn't See the Time Go By

This song, both in English and French, has one of the best lyrics I've ever heard. Very modest. It's called "I Didn't See the Time Go By," from Charles Aznavour's Carnegie Hall DVD concert. Now as the wheel of life turns faster now as the seasons seem to fly I see so many things at last but didn't see the time go by I've known delight, I've known disaster the caviar, the humble pie from the absurd to the sublim I didn't see the time go by I didn't see the years roll on I didn't know the road would bend refused to see when youth was gone pretending it might never end and now, there is a price to pay for every day I threw away Seems I've wasted half a lifetime within the blinking of an eye I didn't head the midnight chime I didn't see the time go by In stolen nights and brief romances I kissed the girls and made them cry while there were balconies to climb I didn't see the time go by I was the guy with all the answers the halfway truth, the little lie so sure, so certain in my prime I didn't see the time go bye I hit the highs, I bit the dirt I left some wreckage in my wake I didn't see that lies can hurt I didn't know how hearts can break and now, they come to haunt my mind the lives I touched and left behind I've sung a hundred songs of longing of sweet regret, and hope run dry I've searched for melody and rhyme but never saw how time can fly never saw the darkening sky I was a minstrel of my time who didn't see the time go by.

Aznavour - To My Daughter

www.vickisms.com ... The English version for Aznavour's song A Ma Fille, For My Daughter. Here are the lyrics of the song: I know the time will come When you'll be taken from me I've watched you growing up With every passing day I know the time will come For life will soon demand it When you will find someone Who'll take you far away And you will never see The sadness in my smile Your eyes will overflow With happiness and tears No you will never see The shadow in my heart As I watch fall to earth The spring of all my years And I'll conceal the pain Beneath a father's pride While in the silent church Together side by side Each measured step would bring me Closer to the time You'll say the simple words And I'll be left in sorrow For what is mine today Will never see tomorrow I'll have to step aside For someone I don't know When all is said and done He'll lead and you will follow While through the stained glass window I'll watch my daughter go. I know the time will come You'll blossom ever gently One day from innocence To woman worldly wise I know the time will come One unexpected moment The dawn of life anew Will awaken in your eyes For he will come along With all his boyish charms He'll take your heart away And leave me empty arms And I will rue this day This day he comes to you With promises of love To make your dreams come true And though he takes our name And gives you his instead He'll never know the times I stood beside your bed Already I despise this stranger With no ...

Charles Aznavour & Liza Minnelli - THE SOUND OF YOUR NAME 1991

www.facebook.com Charles Aznavour & Liza Minnelli - THE SOUND OF YOUR NAME (Ton nom) ● Music: Charles Aznavour ● Lyrics: Herbert Kretzmer ● AZNAVOUR & MINNELLI - Live at PARIS' PALAIS DES CONGRÈS 1991 ● The sound of your name comes to me any hour on wings of the wind like the scent of a flower. How can I explain, it's impossible power the sound of your name. The sound of your name is a Valentine greeting, a bell when it rings and a heart when it's beating. And drawing a spell where all things keep repeating the sound of your name. Your name is a song that I long to be writing. The music is strong and the words are inviting. Exchangeable melodies strangely exciting I found in your name. The sound of your name can bring times of desire that flares like a flame as it climbs ever higher. That burns in my senses and turns them to fire the sound of your name. But love is a game that continuously changes the players, discoveries and the dangers. We started as lovers, we ended as strangers. Now where can I turn? Your names the ghost of a chance that you gave me a grave little dance just enough to enslave me. And only my grief; what is there that can save me if you dont return? At night in my dreams you are there, an obsession. I whisper your name, like a prayer, a confession. Youve entered my soul and youve taken possession. And whom can I blame? For you are the Heaven on earth that I sigh, for the high unattainable moon that I cry. For as long as I live, I will live and Ill ...
