The Bahamas officially the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, is an English-speaking country consisting of 29 islands, 661 cays, and 2387 islets (rocks). We sell it as a paradise. That's a sales pitch", says Jerome Sawyer, a well-known TV reporter. With elections coming up, the Bahamas government has to decide whether it supports popular public demands for capital punishment, or comply with the United Nations' demands for an end to state executions. Junkanoo is a national celebration of Bahamian culture that is over 200 years old. Though many visitors to the Bahamas arent aware of this party in the streets, director of Educulture Bahamas, Ltd., Arlene Nash Ferguson shares the history and importance of this tradition in everyday Bahamian life. Its said that Junkanoo began under British law, when slaves were allowed three days vacation around Christmastime each year. Taking full advantage of this break from hard labor, they reclaimed their humanity through an African festival. Since then, this celebration of life and the peoples endurance has continued and become a mainstay in local culture. Two celebrations take place, one Christmas night and the other New Years morning. Full of energy and vibrant dancing, the costumes worn are a central focus of the festival. Although the materials used have changed throughout the years, from sponges found on the floors of the ocean to newspaper and tissue, and now, crepe paper, the amount of craft involved has stayed the same. The crepe paper is placed onto cardboard one piece at a time and the costumes are layered with crafty details, making this a year-long preparation. Arlene spreads this important history and heritage to local school students, teaching them about the national pride the Junkanoo celebration instills.

It is based on a Bahamian lullaby about a mother on her death bed, comforting her children, "Hush little baby, don't you cry. You know your mama's bound to die," because, as she explains, "All my trials, Lord, Soon be over." The underlying message - this too shall pass; that no matter how bleak the situation seemed, the struggle would "soon be over" - lifted this song to the status of an anthem and was recorded by many of the leading artists of the era. The song is usually classified as a spritual because of its biblical references and religious imagery. We couldn't go to the Bahamas for a photo shoot without setting aside some time to play! Watch as the TeenyB models take to the ocean like dolphins. They had a blast swimming with the fish, exploring underwater reefs and hunting for treasures, and of course they looked gorgeous doing it while wearing their TeenyB Bikinis!

Here is a video I shot while on the Disney Cruise. We were in Nassau Bahamas and went on a Stuart Cove's Shark feeding adventure. We did not feed the sharks of course but watched at extremely close range (Watch in one shot where my son gets hit in the head by a sharks lower caudal fin.) This was one of the best dives we have ever done. This was shot entirely on a $300 GoPro Hero HD video camera. AWESOME! These Awesome predators certainly deserve our respect and I would only do a dive like this with reputable operations like Stuart Cove's.
