Salvador Bahia - Brazil

Salvador da Bahia is a city on the northeast coast of Brazil and the capital of the Northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia. Salvador is also known as Brazil's capital of happiness due to its easygoing population and countless popular outdoor parties, including its street carnival. The first colonial capital of Brazil, the city is one of the oldest in the country and in the New World. For a long time, it was simply known as Bahia, and appears under that name (or as Salvador da Bahia, Salvador of Bahia so as to differentiate it from other Brazilian cities of the same name) on many maps and books from before the mid-20th century. Salvador is the third most populous Brazilian city, after São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, and it is the ninth most populous city in Latin America. The city of Salvador is notable in Brazil for its cuisine, music and architecture, and its metropolitan area is the wealthiest in Brazil's Northeast, its poorest region. Over 80% of the population of metropolitan region of Salvador has Black African ancestry, the African influence in many cultural aspects of the city makes it the center of Afro-Brazilian culture and this reflects in turn a curious situation in which African-associated cultural practices are celebrated, but Black Bahians due to their low income are apart from most of the city life options. The historical center of Salvador, frequently called the Pelourinho, is renowned for its Portuguese colonial architecture with historical monuments dating ...

Paloma Gomes - Canta Bahia (Brazillian Samba)

In English: The Legendary Sound of Bahia -- As Paloma Gomes shows in her genuine and spirited samba song "Canta Bahia", vitality, indulgence and ...

Paulo Diniz - Eu quero voltar pra Bahia

Paulo Diniz - Eu quero voltar pra Bahia. "I don't want to stay here, I wanna to go back to Bahia" Anyone who has been exiled to London, or anywhere on the Planet for that matter, will appreciate this most sympathetic song of a longing for return to Paradise. Paulo Diniz has captured that element here - perhaps while "distracting for a cold beer." Generating a blend of Island and Reggae flavor within a folk/rock format, one is at once exported to an exotic fantasy world of sun, sand and sea. Diniz charges this song with pure emotional passion. A timeless classic which we dedicate here to Caetano Velaso who had experienced just such a draining vacuum and consequential desire of relief.

Three Caballeros - A Present from Brazil

Oooh, Bahia-ia-ia When twilight is deep in the sky, Bahia-ia-ia Someone that I long to see Keeps haunting my reverie And so the loneliness deep in my heart calls to you Calls to you I live in the memory of many dreams ago When the stars were bright, and you were mine alone My love for you cannot die Though the oceans run dry Or heaven falls from the sky Now you're gone... Bahia! Can't you hear my lonely call? Morena! Make my life complete again How I pray for the day when I see your smile and my heart can beat again... Oooh, Bahia-ia-ia When twilight is deep in the sky, Bahia-ia-ia Someone that I long to see Keeps haunting my reverie And so the loneliness deep in my heart calls to you Calls to you
