Beer festival season isn't over just yet - now it's time for OktoBEERfest! This festival was held at the same place as the "Saratoga Brewfest" I went to last year (and missed this year due to class, unfortunately). I went with my friend Shaun and some of his friends. I was surprised that ALL the beers were on tap and they actually had a great selection of authentic German Oktoberfestbiers (marzens) and American Oktoberfest beers and a few pumpkin ales and ciders. I didn't film our comments on every beer we had, just whenever I remembered that I had a camera with me. Daveron kicked into high gear in midstretch and wore down pacesetter Tapitsfly in the final yards to win the 23rd running of the Grade 2, $200000 Ballston Spa on Saturday afternoon at Saratoga Race Course. Ridden by Eddie Castro, the 6-year-old mare broke alertly and settled in fourth along the hedge as Tapitsfly took the field of eight fillies and mares through fractions of 23.52, 47.19 and 1:10.67 over the firm Mellon turf course. Moving into contention on the turn, Castro angled Daveron to the outside at the top of the stretch, where she outkicked the stubborn Tapitsfly to win by 1 ¾ lengths. Her time for the 1 1/16 miles was 1:40.09.

This is the second beer fest I've been to this year, and it was LOCAL! This festival was put on by some of the local beer distributors and a few upstate New York microbreweries. The majority of the booths were simply bottles of a particular brewery's beers poured by Brewfest staff members. There were a few breweries on tap, though. I have to thank Jeremy at Tri-Valley Beverage for hooking me up with a press pass. Also, thanks to my friend Kristin for coming out to the festival and acting as my chauffeur/videographer. Dynaslew collared front-running Silver Reunion with a furlong to go and went on to post a half-length victory Saturday afternoon in the 22nd running of the Grade 2, $200000 Ballston Spa Handicap at Saratoga Race Course. Patiently ridden by Eibar Coa, the 4-year-old Dynaformer filly sat just two lengths behind Silver Reunion, who led the field of 10 fillies and mares through opening fractions of 23.44, 47.54 and 1:11.15 over the firm Inner Turf course. Silver Reunion straightened for home with a clear lead, but Dynaslew was just hitting her best stride and after battling briefly with the pacesetter, began edging to the front and hit the wire in 1:40.58 for the 1 1/16th miles. "In the stretch, she just kept digging and digging and digging," said Coa of Dynaslew, whose previous graded stakes victory came in the Grade 3 Beaugay at Belmont Park in May. "She never stopped running." The victory was the third in five starts this year for Dynaslew, who in her previous start finished fourth, beaten just a neck, by Proviso in the Grade 1 Diana at the Spa on July 31. Trained by Seth Benzel for Live Oak Plantation, she earned $240000 for the victory, nearly doubling her bankroll to $486850. Overall, Dynaslew is 5-4-0 from 13 starts.
