West Banksy (part 1)
Late last year (2010) I filmed the transportation of two Banksy murals being shipped out of the Palestinian West Bank for restoration in the UK and eventual exhibition. The two walls had been cut down some years ago to prevent their being painted over or their disintegration. This is the first, short piece from that trip and the subsequent UK restoration before the pieces headed to Keszler Gallery in New York. The Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill. From Banksy: New Yorkers dont care about art, they care about pets. So Im exhibiting them instead. I wanted to make art that questioned our relationship with animals and the ethics and sustainability of factory farming, but it ended up as chicken nuggets singing. I took all the money I made exploiting an animal in my last show and used it to fund a new show about the exploitation of animals. If its art and you can see it from the street, I guess it could still be considered street art."
